The University of Liverpool is a public research university located in the city of Liverpool, in the United Kingdom. Established in 1881, it is one of the six original ‘red brick’ civic universities. The University of Liverpool is a member of the prestigious Russell Group, and is ranked in the top 200 universities in the world by the QS World University Rankings.

History

The University of Liverpool was established in 1881, as a direct result of a campaign by local businessmen and politicians to create a university in the city. The university was initially established as a college of the University of London, before gaining its own Royal Charter in 1903. Since then, the university has grown significantly, and now comprises of three faculties, numerous research institutes and over 20,000 students.

Faculties and Schools

The University of Liverpool is organised into three faculties: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Health and Life Sciences; and Science and Engineering. Each faculty is further divided into a number of schools, including the School of History, Archaeology and Religion; the School of Medicine; and the School of Engineering. The university also has a number of research institutes, including the Institute of Translational Medicine; the Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease; and the Institute of Psychology, Health and Society.
