We moved our daughters to this school in 2015 and we can say that it is the best thing that we ever did. The school is run very professionally and there is a mutual respect between the teachers and students. The facilities are purpose built and really nice. The teachers are very friendly and also the environment is nice. My daughters have made some lovely friends in the 6 years they have attended. Also the standard of teaching is excellent with all the staff fully qualified and fully DBS checked which is essential. The previous school the children attended had unqualified staff teaching which — Freya Riley
We moved dance schools and joined The Team at The Thompson Dance Studios during lockdown and they went above and beyond for their students and families. Organising zoom classes and social events on zoom to to help keep the school gelled.. It was amazing.. Since then we have had great exam results and support with all their classes. A brilliant dance school for parents and dancers alike. I can't wait to see their show..— Amy Haslam
We joined The Thompson Dance Studios about 4 years ago. My daughter was very nervous but the teachers made her feel incredibly happy from the very first lesson. The progress she has made is phenomenal and the way the teachers continued to deliver high quality lessons during lockdown was amazing. I would not take my daughter anywhere else. This place is very special! Thank you TDS for always being amazing.— Nikki Potton
The Dance School is Brilliant, our daughter has autism with many worries but Thompsons have been Brilliant with her. At a time when she's was really struggling they guided her through doing shows at the civic ( to keep her content both on the stage and back stage was brilliant ) and also teaching and guiding her to a distinction in her exam. They all have been really brilliant. Excellent dance studio!— Martin Fletcher
The easiest way to begin is a beginners' class where the frame and basic steps are taught gradually. No partner or prior experience is required.
The waltz is commonly taught first because its steady rhythm makes the basics clear. The social foxtrot is another approachable starting point.
Yes, adults regularly take up ballet and progress well. Adult classes build strength, posture and flexibility over time.
It is never too late to start. Adults of any age can begin, with classes adapted to their fitness and mobility.
Common steps include the grapevine, the kick-ball-change, the shuffle, the pivot turn and the heel dig. Beginner routines mix a few of these on repeat.
A short, repeating routine with few turns is the easiest to learn. Teachers usually ease newcomers in with a simple dance.
