The Joneses' Studio in Alton is both a hireable venue and a home for American-style partner dancing. Alongside private events held in its well-appointed space, the studio hosts swing and smooth classes led by Jeremy and Kate Basile, whom reviewers describe as welcoming professionals. Dancers here learn American styles ranging from foxtrot and rumba to swing, salsa and country two-step. The result is a friendly, no-pressure environment for social dancing.
The studio has a dual character: it is used for celebrations and private hire, and it also runs regular partner-dance classes. The teaching focuses on American smooth and swing styles, taught in a relaxed atmosphere that suits couples and singles alike. Because the space doubles as an event venue, it is worth checking the class timetable rather than assuming fixed weekly hours.
The core dance offer centres on American-style partner dancing, making the studio a distinctive choice among dance classes in Alton. The swing and smooth sessions cover foxtrot, rumba, salsa and two-step in a supportive setting. Those searching for line dancing in Alton or other specific styles should confirm what is on the current schedule, as the studio's speciality is partnered American dance. It is also a venue you can hire, so ask separately about lessons versus private events.
For a class, it is best to check the timetable and confirm your place in advance, since the space is also used for events. Wear comfortable clothing and smooth-soled shoes suitable for turning. Jeremy and Kate are used to welcoming newcomers, so first-timers need not feel nervous.
Alton is a market town in east Hampshire, and the studio's location keeps it convenient for dancers across the town and nearby villages. Its dual role as a venue means it is a recognisable local spot for both classes and gatherings.
Went to my Daughter in Laws 32nd Birthday party here last night. I also hired the venue myself back in 2015, for my wife’s 50th Birthday Party. This is a lovely venue and lends itself very well for celebrating your special event. There is a well stocked bar, which serves a selection of bottled beers, cider, spirits, wines and cocktails. The prices of the drinks are a little high, but if you hit or exceed the minimum sales target that the bar needs to make, then the cost of hiring the hall is free. The bar staff were very friendly and attentive. They even clean up at the end of the evening. I — Roland Tedder
I could not recommend this studio enough. They provide outstanding dance teaching. The teachers are dynamic, flexible, highly talented and experienced. They know how to engage and inspire people of a variety of ages using a number of different dance styles and choreography. I am in charge of Dance at a Girls School in London and invited Kate Basile to come in to work with our girls. The Year 6’s were in awe and learnt Charleston for their end of year production. Our Year 10 girls absolutely loved learning to Jive and showcased their newly learnt skills in our Gym and Dance Show. Highly positiv— Sarah Naylor
Beautiful Studio
The swing and smooth class is great, a no pressure fun filled class taught by professionals Jeremy and Kate Basile, beautiful couple who make everyone welcome. It's great learning the American style of dance from foxtrot, rumba, swing, salsa to the country two step . Looking forward to the new Latin and Ballroom classes scheduled for September, wether learning for fun or going on to gaining medals and competing you can't go wrong with the high level of teaching at The Bell House.
Great Zumba class on a Tuesday morning with another great teacher, Kate Sadler, have fun while keep— John Ocallaghan
Visited for a private function/party. A beautiful building with plenty of character. Was pleasantly surprised at how spacious the venue was, enough room for plenty of tables, for people to mingle, have a dance floor as well as room for a live band. The bar area was set outside the main room so was a nice quiet area and it was good to order away from the hustle and bustle. Large mirrors used as part of the dance studio gave an extra feeling of space and light. Food was put on by the White Heart in Holybourne and was superb.— Fobby
Yes, adults can take up ballet at any point, though you would need a dedicated ballet school rather than a partner-dance studio. Adult beginner classes elsewhere focus on posture and coordination at a comfortable pace.
It is never too late to begin recreational ballet. People start in their forties, fifties and beyond, dancing for the strength and poise it develops within their own range.
Common line-dance moves include the grapevine, step-touch, kick-ball-change, coaster step and pivot turn. These few steps recombine across many routines, which makes the style approachable.
A short four-wall dance with a repeating sequence is the easiest place to start, as the same pattern returns after each turn. A slow, familiar routine helps beginners settle into the timing.
Yes. Many styles are danced solo, and partner classes frequently rotate dancers so you can attend alone. Coming without a partner is perfectly normal.
Comfortable clothes and smooth-soled shoes that let you turn easily are ideal for partner dancing. The teacher can advise on anything more specific as you progress.
