Tango UK holds its classes at Bramshaw Village Hall on the edge of the New Forest, a setting one dancer called a dream find. Steve and Debbie, who teach here, have guided pupils in Argentine Tango over many years and are regarded by peers as among the very best. Learners praise their patience and Steve's rare gift for explaining a movement in whatever way finally makes it click. It is a specialist school with genuine depth.
This dance school specialises in Argentine Tango, taught by Steve and Debbie, whose reputation extends well beyond the local area. Their knowledge, teaching skill and patience are repeatedly singled out, and beginners describe being hooked from their very first class. The focus is firmly on this one expressive, improvised style rather than a broad syllabus.
As a specialist within the wider dance classes in Southampton area, Tango UK concentrates on Argentine Tango from beginner level upward. Newcomers can join dedicated beginner sessions and build steadily under experienced guidance, so these dance lessons in Southampton suit anyone drawn to tango's close, improvised connection. While it is not a general school offering salsa classes in Southampton or ballet classes in Southampton, its focus makes it an excellent choice for adults seeking depth in one style, and it complements more general adult dance classes in Southampton elsewhere.
For a first tango class, wear comfortable clothing you can move in and choose shoes with smooth soles that let you pivot on the floor. You do not need to bring a partner or any experience, as beginner sessions start from the basics. Arrive a little early to meet the teachers and settle in.
The New Forest setting gives this school a peaceful, rather special atmosphere, and tango has a devoted following among those who discover it. Learning here can connect you to a wider community of enthusiasts who value the dance's expressive side.
I can't believe how lucky I was to find Tangouk when looking for a dance class. To find such a class in the Hew Forest and such a lovely studio was a dream.
Steve and Debbie welcomed me to a beginner class and from that moment I was completely hooked. Over my time there, I have made so many new friends, enjoyed great teaching not only learning Tango but about how much delving into the musicality has changed my dance. There are so many events to enjoy on your doorstep. Weekly classes, monthly events like the Sunday Tea Dance with delicious music from Steve and yummy food prepared by Debbie. Als— KAthleen PRowse
Steve and Debbie are regular teachers at our house Villa La Rogaia in Italy, and they are definitely among the best tango teachers we know (and we have seen some). Last year we had the opprtunity to visit them in New Forest and to take a look at their dance studio. Absolutely gorgeous place in the middle of the forest. Once you have fought your way through snappy ponies, unbearably braying donkeys. wild cows, potentially aggressive deer and maybe some weird elves, you will experience wonderful tango dancing and fantastic food. Strongly recommended!— Wolfgang Sandt
I started learning Argentine Tango with Steve and Debbie from Tango UK 10 years ago. Their knowledge, teaching skills and patience are second to none. Steve has the rare knack in a teacher of vein for able to explain something in almost an infinite number of ways so that anyone can master the dance that might hopefully enrich your life in the way it has done mine. Thoroughly recommended.— Andrew Emerson
A lovely Tea dance every month, as well as other Milongas… well worth the travelling to be there. Have enjoyed weekend workshops, staying in the hotel just down the road. Steve and Debbie are wonderful hosts, I recommend everyone interested in Tango to go and visit. Lloyd @ Worthing West Sussex.— Lloyd Willis
The basic salsa step is quick to pick up, usually within a first lesson. The turns and timing that follow take more practice, much as they do in tango.
Yes. Beginner classes are designed for people with no background, introducing the steps gradually until you can dance a simple routine.
It is entirely possible. Adult ballet classes cater to those beginning later in life, focusing on gradual progress and enjoyment.
There is no upper age limit for recreational ballet. Adults of any age can learn the technique and enjoy its benefits.
Common building blocks include the grapevine, the shuffle, the kick-ball-change, the pivot turn and the heel dig. Beginner routines combine several of these into a repeating sequence.
Short routines with repeating sequences of familiar steps are the easiest to start with, since the same moves keep coming round. A teacher will usually begin you on one of these.
