Step 2 Starz

Step 2 Starz is a performance-focused dance school serving Dawlish and neighbouring Teignmouth. Its emphasis is firmly on stage work, and one long-standing parent describes their child performing in London's West End and at The O2 after training here. Led by Shona, the school suits children who dream of the spotlight and want to build towards it. The programme is geared to those with a real passion for performing.

About Step 2 Starz

The school centres on developing young performers, with teaching aimed at readying pupils for shows and events. Reviews reflect committed, long-term coaching that has taken dancers to significant stages. It is best understood as a place for children keen to perform rather than a casual drop-in.

Classes & Dance Styles

Classes are built around performance skills, combining dance technique with the stagecraft needed to appear in front of an audience. Younger children can start and grow within the school over several years, following a path towards larger productions. The focus on shows means pupils gain experience of rehearsing and presenting work, not just learning steps in isolation. Teaching is described as demanding but rewarding for children who love to perform.

What to Expect on Your First Visit

Send your child in comfortable clothing they can move and stretch in, with dance shoes if they already have a pair. Let the school know it is a first visit so they can be placed with a suitable group. No previous stage experience is expected to begin.

Location & Contact

The school draws pupils from Dawlish, Teignmouth and the wider stretch of coast between them. Its performance reputation makes it a recognisable choice for families in the area.

Step 2 Starz is definitely the best dance school in the Dawlish/Teignmouth area if your child has a passion for performance!! Shona has trained my daughter for the past 6 years and has given her the opportunity to perform in the West End London and The O2 in London! Dancing at this school has opened many doors and now my daughter has sat dance exams, performed in pantos as well as performing in many other shows! Shona and her wonderful team have ignited the love and discipline you need for performing and my daughter can’t get enough of it!! She has made life long friendships and I believe ther— Keira Storey

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you learn to dance without a partner?

Yes. The classes here are group-based and performance-led, so children dance as individuals within a routine and do not need a partner.

What should I wear to a beginner dance class?

Comfortable, fitted clothing that allows free movement is best, together with appropriate dance shoes once you know the style. Clean socks are fine for an initial session.

How much does a dance class usually cost?

Fees vary with the class, the length and whether you pay per term or per session. The school can confirm current costs when you enquire.

Which dance is best for beginners?

For children drawn to the stage, a general performance or beginners' class is a good entry point before focusing on a particular style. The best choice is the one that excites them most.

What is the best dance to start as an adult?

Adults usually enjoy a style with clear structure and sociable classes. Choose according to the music and movement you find appealing.

Is dancing good for heart failure?

Gentle activity can be beneficial, but heart failure requires personalised advice. Consult your GP or cardiologist before taking up dancing and follow their guidance on intensity.
