What Dancers Say About Starlight Dance School

5/5 from 14 Google reviews.

My daughter started to dance with Becky (School principal) at Starlight when she was 6. That was almost 8 years ago and she now does a variety of classes and really enjoys them. Becky is an inspirational young woman and all the dancers male and female love her. Some of the older dancers assist with classes learning new skills as dance teaching assistants. Everybody gets their chance to shine at Starlight ⭐️. Since COVID grounded us in March Becky has kept the classes going via Zoom which has been brilliant for my daughter!— Francesca Nelson

I’ve danced at starlight for almost 10 years now and i’ve loved every single dance class i’ve been to. It’s such a close knit and family-like dance school where everyone is welcome. Becky is an incredible teacher and principle who’s so passionate about this dance school and all her hard work really shows in our numerous performances throughout the year. I really recommend this dance school to anyone who’s interested in dance, whether you’re a beginner or wishing to continue your dancing experience.— Lauren kerfoot

At Starlight no matter whether you are doing technique or learning new choreography for a dance each class is fun, different and filled with laughter. Starlight is one big family and everyone is made welcome. I would highly recommend the dance school to anyone wishing to begin or continue their dancing experience. I love every minute when dancing with my friends and being taught by Becky – she is a great teacher and so energetic in everything that she does 🙂— Holly Macnamara

This dance school is a staple of the local community with a real "family feel". I've never seen a group of kids so invested and happy as when they are dancing with Becky. They welcome both boys and girls of all ages and there is a real emphasis on both skill, but also fun. Every kid gets their chance center stage at the end of year show which is something that you wouldn't get at other local dance schools, who give preference to the "best" dancers. 5 stars!!!— Simon Rigby

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you start ballroom dancing?

Start with a beginners' group where the basic steps, timing and posture are taught gently. You do not need a partner or any experience; get in touch to find a class that suits you.

What ballroom dance to learn first?

Beginners often begin with the waltz because its rhythm is easy to count, though a simple Latin dance is another good option. The teacher can suggest a first dance to match your taste.

How hard is it to learn salsa?

The basic salsa step is quick to learn, even if the music feels fast at first. With a little practice most people are soon dancing simple patterns confidently.

Can a non-dancer learn salsa?

Yes, classes are made for complete beginners and break the movement down step by step. Regular attendance is what turns it from tricky to natural.

What are 5 basic steps in line dancing?

Common line-dance moves include the grapevine, step-touch, kick-ball-change, pivot turn and the shuffle. These simple building blocks combine into most beginner routines, and the teacher will introduce them one at a time.

What is the easiest line dance to learn for beginners?

Short, repetitive dances with only a few moves, such as the well-known beginner favourites, are the easiest to pick up. The class will start you on something simple before adding variations.
