SK Dance Academy is a dance school in the Tongwynlais area of Cardiff, popular with families for its friendly Saturday classes. Children study a mix of styles and, by many accounts, grow noticeably in confidence over time. It is a welcoming choice for young dancers, including those who have not felt at home elsewhere.
Parents describe children who look forward to every class and who blossom under teachers like Miss Maddy, with confidence often the biggest gain of all. Performance opportunities feature too, giving pupils a chance to show what they have learned.
Pupils here typically study ballet, tap and modern, so the academy offers a rounded set of dance classes in Cardiff for younger dancers. Ballet classes in Cardiff form part of that mix, and technique, musicality and stage skills all get attention. Adults interested in adult dance classes in Cardiff, or anyone asking about dance lessons in Cardiff, line dancing in Cardiff or salsa classes in Cardiff, should contact the academy to see what suits.
Newcomers usually start with a class where the aim is simply to settle in and enjoy it, and nervous first-timers are gently supported. Comfortable dancewear and soft shoes are enough to begin, and staff will advise on anything more specific.
Set in the Tongwynlais area on the northern edge of Cardiff, the academy is convenient for families across the surrounding suburbs. Nearby parking and local transport make the weekly class easy to keep up.
My daughter has been attending SK Dance Academy for 3.5 years and she absolutely loves it. Previously she attended a different dance school but she never really felt comfortable there. At SK Dance she has grown in confidence and never wants to miss a class. She does ballet, tap, modern and Acro classes. She opted to take exams and enjoyed the experience but her favourite thing of all has been performing on stage in an actual theatre. SK Dance Academy is professional but also fun & relaxed at the same time. The staff are exceptional and I can’t rate them highly enough. I would definitely recomm— David George
My twins have been coming to the SK Academy since Sept last year and absolutely love their Saturday morning class with Miss Maddy. Seeing their confidence growing from their first day when due to Covid restrictions I couldn't even enter the building and there was a lot of crying as I left them to how they just waltz off now is brilliant. They've definitely become more independent and this is mirrored in other classes they've started.
We chose SK as their response time and comms in comparison with other enquiries I made to get the girls enrolled in a dance class was amazing.

My daughter has been attending the dance academy for nearly four years now. She absolutely loves all of her classes and studies ballet, tap and modern. She dances non stop in the house and has really grown in confidence. Since joining the academy she has performed in two shows. Both were well organised and gave her such a great experience to perform on a real stage. She has also recently completed her first exam and felt so proud when it was done. There was no pressure to do the exam and again it was all well organised and communication with parents was excellent. They staff even went out of t— Andrew Dyer

Yn ystod COVID, roedd gwersi ar lein wedi gweithio'n dda. Dw i wedi cael llwyth o bethau o'r tudalen gwisg ail-law hefyd. Mae hi'n dwli canu'r caneuon a dawnsio o gwmpas y ty a dw i'n dwli ar 45 munud o lonydd ar fore Sadwrn! Maen nhw'n ymateb yn brydlon i ymholiadau ac yn dda yn gysylltu trwy gyfryngau gymdeithasol neu ebost. Yn sicr, ysgol ddawns baswn i'n ei hargymell.— Rachel Nicholls
Salsa is very approachable to begin, since the basic step is a straightforward weight-change over a steady count. The polish comes with time, but you will be dancing something recognisable early.
Yes, beginner salsa assumes no experience at all. Each move is broken down slowly and repeated until it feels natural.
It is, and plenty of adults take it up fresh. Adult ballet classes focus on posture, strength and enjoyment at a comfortable pace.
For recreational ballet there is no upper age limit, as classes welcome all ages. Only professional-level training is genuinely age-dependent.
The grapevine, step-touch, kick-ball-change, shuffle and pivot turn are among the most common. Beginner dances are usually built from these.
A short four-wall dance with a repeating pattern is the gentlest starting point. Because it repeats on each turn, it becomes familiar quickly.
