Riddles Court: An Historic Event Venue in Edinburgh

Riddles Court is an historic venue located in the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland. This unique event space was built in the 16th century and is the oldest surviving townhouse in the city. The building has a rich and varied history, having been a home to the city’s nobility, a court, and a meeting place for the Royal College of Physicians.

History

Riddles Court was built in 1590 by the wealthy merchant, John MacMoran. The building was originally intended to be a townhouse for the MacMoran family. It was later used as a court by the Lord Provost of Edinburgh and was the site of many important legal cases.

In the 18th century, the building was used as a meeting place for the Royal College of Physicians, who used it to host lectures and meetings. Later, the building was owned by the Royal College of Surgeons and was used as a museum and library.

Today

Today, Riddles Court is a popular event venue. It is available for hire for private and corporate events, such as weddings, conferences, and receptions. The building is also open to the public for guided tours.

The venue features a variety of beautiful rooms, including the Great Hall, the Drawing Room, and the Library. The Great Hall is the largest room in the building and can accommodate up to 200 guests. The Drawing Room and Library are smaller, but still offer plenty of space for events.
