Planet Dance is a dancewear shop based at Carlinghow Mills in Batley, West Yorkshire, supplying shoes, clothing and accessories for dancers. It serves customers who travel from across the region rather than offering tuition. Anyone after well-fitted dance shoes or specialist kit will find it a destination worth the trip.
Customers describe first-class, unhurried service, with pointe shoe fittings that can take well over an hour to get exactly right. Staff earn particular praise for going above and beyond with families who are new to buying dancewear. It suits performers needing reliable stage shoes as much as parents outfitting a child for their first classes.
Planet Dance is a shop, not a school, so it does not run classes, but it kits out dancers for lessons across the area. Whether you are starting out or performing, the right footwear and clothing make practice and stage work far more comfortable. Getting properly fitted before you begin means you can focus on the dancing itself.
A first visit usually centres on a fitting, so allow plenty of time, especially for pointe shoes. Bringing details of the style or level you dance helps staff recommend the right products, and booking an appointment for detailed fittings is a good idea.
The shop is located at a converted mill site in Batley, well placed for customers travelling from around the wider region. Checking opening hours and parking before you set off makes the journey smoother.
I go out full time as a singer and do move around towards the audience to chat to them etc so I need heels that look good for the stage and were I don't struggle to walk around without them hurting me.
These shoes are perfect, i'm so happy with them, they are really comfy and fit like a glove. What I do love about Planet Dance is that they have half sizes as lots of us women are a 6 and a half etc so for once I've got shoes that fit and look brilliant. The order came quick too and was as just as nice as in the picture advertised!Thank you Planet Dance!
P.s they even have a little fabric bag — Poppy Holiday
Absolutely first class service and worth travelling to. Pointe shoe fitting took 90mins whilst my daughters feet were assessed and checked. Constant questions and assessment in the shoes were made to ascertain the correct size. Spot on assessment of my daughters weaker left foot was made and even spent time to demonstrate strengthening exercises, even though they were busy. If you are reading this don't go anywhere else, I truly believe the service could not be any better anywhere and on top of that the prices were 'very' reasonable.
Thank you for an outstanding customer experience.— Dee Casement
Made an appointment at Dance Planet today, to get some Ballet clothing for my little girl.
I didn’t have a clue and that was probably obvious to the staff.
They looked after us, fantastically. The lady who attended to us was amazing, she really went above and beyond, my little girl managed to get all the items she needed to start her ballet classes.
We will definitely be return customers.
10 out of 10.
The only negative thing I could say, was that it was a little tricky finding the shop as it is on a largish mill complex, but in a way that sort of added to the experience.
Thank you— a d
I ordered several items from Planet Dance. The order was despatched swiftly and arrived two working days later. Three of the four items were of excellent quality. One item was of poor quality and did not survive through one dance class. I contacted customer service about the poor construction of the product. They responded swiftly and after seeing the photographs decided to replace the defective item. Overall I am extremely pleased with my purchases and especially with the customer service. I will definitely be shopping with Planet Dance again.— sonya mathews
Yes, plenty of styles including ballet, line dancing and solo Latin need no partner at all. Even partner dances are commonly taught in classes where dancers rotate.
Comfortable clothing you can move in freely and shoes suited to the style are all that is required. If unsure, ask the class what footwear they suggest beforehand.
Costs depend on the style, the teacher and whether the session is group or private, so they vary considerably. Contact the studio directly for up-to-date pricing.
Beginner-friendly options include salsa, ballroom and line dancing, all built on simple repeating steps. The ideal choice comes down to the music and atmosphere you prefer.
Many adults begin with salsa or ballroom, since both are sociable and quick to grasp at a basic level. Ballet and line dancing are also popular starting points depending on your taste.
Dancing can be a gentle form of exercise, but anyone with a heart condition should speak to their doctor before starting. A medical professional can advise on what activity level is safe for you.
