What Dancers Say About The Dance Studio Leeds

4.9/5 from 85 Google reviews.

I booked some wedding dance lessons with Jess Cooper as our teacher to prepare for our first dance together. Jess was amazing throughout the 3 lessons we had. I'd never had a dance lesson before so didn't know what to expect. Jess' teaching style was very patient but still managed to get us up to speed whilst keeping it fun. My wife and I going to look at booking some future dance lessons to spice up our nights out from the great experience we both had.

The wedding dance honestly couldn’t have gone much better. Once we’d got the main moves remembered Jess made sure to provide some further poi— Josh Cooper

Just finished the fundamentals tap course with Amelia as the teacher.

A really great introduction to basic steps. I had done a little bit of tap before, but this has really helped me look at the breakdown of each step and ways to try to focus on certain aspects of the steps. Some steps I’d realised I was not “attacking” in the right way. Especially the refocusing on my ankles rather than tensing my toes!

Each week we focus on one or two steps. Amelia goes through each step, gives different ways to access it (which is great as we all learn differently) and makes sure she checks everyone has— nancy jenkinson brown

I organised a virtual Hen Party for my friend this year and came across Dance Studio Leeds when looking for someone to host a dance class via zoom. I cannot tell you how happy I am that I found them – just all round fabulous. Katie was super at organising the event with me and tailoring it to our needs (the theme was underwater so, naturally, "under the sea" had to be involved). On the night we had Amelia to lead us through two dances – she was so wonderful and friendly and patient – I could hear everyone saying "she's so lovely"! – it was definitely the highlight of the party and I cannot rec— Julia Robertson

While in Leeds for 8 weeks, visiting from the USA The Dance Studio organized private tap lessons for my son who needed tap for a part in a show. Amelia the teacher was fantastic! She planned the lessons and taught my son all the basics with patience and a healthy focus on technique. She built up his ability and confidence and gave him the perfect foundations to build upon.
Jess in the office was very professional; always getting back to me with scheduling and organizing payment.
The studio itself is clean, well appointed, roomy and friendly. Coffee and drinks are available in a comfy reception— Susannah Amygdalitsis

Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is it to learn salsa?

Salsa's basic step is quick to learn, so most people are dancing something in their first lesson. Developing timing and turns takes longer, which is where much of the enjoyment comes from.

Can a non-dancer learn salsa?

Yes, non-dancers take up salsa successfully all the time. Beginner classes assume no background and build the steps up gradually.

Is it possible to learn ballet as an adult?

It is, and adult ballet is widely taught for its posture and strength benefits. Regular practice matters more than the age at which you begin.

What age is too late to start ballet?

No age is too late to begin, as ballet classes welcome adults as well as children. The key is finding a class pitched at the right level.

What are 5 basic steps in line dancing?

Common building blocks include the grapevine, the step-touch, the kick-ball-change, the pivot turn and the shuffle. Line dances arrange these into a repeating pattern.

What is the easiest line dance to learn for beginners?

A dance built on a short, repeating four-wall sequence is usually the easiest first step. Instructors tend to walk the moves through slowly before adding music.
