Langley Dance Centre is a long-established dance school in Blackpool best known for teaching children and young people across a range of styles. Families return year after year, and some pupils dance there for a decade or more. It suits parents looking for a caring, professional place for a child to begin, including younger and shyer children. The centre has a strong sense of community around it.
Parents consistently praise a kind, patient team that makes children feel welcome from the moment they arrive and accommodates those who are nervous at first. The atmosphere is often described as being like a dance family, which suits youngsters who thrive on encouragement and belonging.
The school offers a variety of dance styles for children, building technique, coordination and confidence through age-appropriate teaching. While the heart of the timetable is aimed at young dancers, Blackpool families exploring ballet classes and other options will find a structured route from the very first steps upward. Classes are grouped so that beginners are eased in gently and more experienced pupils are kept progressing. Teaching is described as second to none, with real care taken over each child.
A child's first visit is designed to be relaxed and welcoming, with no expectation of any prior experience. Comfortable clothing that allows free movement is ideal, along with suitable footwear for the class type; the staff can advise on specifics when you enquire. Nervous newcomers are given time to settle in.
The centre is situated in Blackpool and is easily reached by families living in and around the town.
I cannot recommend this dance centre enough. Both my little girls attend various different classes and have done from being 2 years old. They are so kind and caring towards the children and so accommodating with my youngest daughter who was a bit shy and nervous at first.
During the pandemic they have gone above and beyond in a time of uncertainty and worry … they never let the children down. Week in week out we had live classes and kept the girls in a routine something they could look forward to and really enjoy … and for that we will be forever grateful.
We are so excited to be back –— Jemma Cowell
I highly recommend Langley Dance Academy if you are looking for your little one to start a dance school. The whole team have been nothing but professional, kind and caring with my 6 year old.
My daughter really feels like part of their dance family and adores/loves all the teachers there, she has made some amazing friends over the past 4 years and has also had the chance to do some fantastic opportunities which has brought her confidence on.
I knew nothing about dance before she started but now I love it. All thanks to Langley’s.— Simon Bishop
My daughter's have been dancing at Langley's for over 10 years now and we would highly recommend Langley's to anyone looking for dance school for their children. They make you feel so welcome from the minute you walk through the door and the teaching is second to none. My children love the teachers, the amazing studios and friendships they have formed over the years and of course the amazing opportunities given to them each year to do what they love. They call dancing their 'second home' which confirms we made the right choice.— Chantal English
Fantastic dance school with amazing opportunities to perform at all levels.
My daughter has been attending Langleys for the past 7 years and has gained excellent exam results and has performed in their annual show at the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom during this time. She has also been given many opportunities, from performing in Pantomimes to representing England in the Dance World Cup and has made memories that will last a lifetime. We definitely feel that we made the right choice when selecting a dance school for her.— Nicola Steen
Most people begin with a beginner group class where the basic hold and a couple of simple dances are introduced. Steady attendance then builds your repertoire step by step.
The waltz is a popular first choice thanks to its gentle, even rhythm. Some teachers also start beginners with a social foxtrot or a quickstep-style walk.
Salsa's core step is straightforward and comes to most people fairly quickly. Mastering the flow and turns takes longer, but that is part of the fun.
Yes, beginner salsa is aimed squarely at people with no experience. The steps are taught slowly so anyone can join in.
Yes, adults can take up ballet at any stage and enjoy its benefits for posture and strength. Beginner adult classes start from the basics.
There is no age that is too late for ballet as a hobby. People begin well into later life and still make good progress.
