Kirkabister from Shetland is a dance company based in Shetland, Scotland. We are passionate about promoting and preserving the traditional dances of Shetland, as well as providing a platform for contemporary dance styles from across the UK. Our mission is to provide a platform for dancers of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to come together to learn, practice and enjoy the art of dance in a safe and supportive environment.

Our History

Kirkabister from Shetland was founded in 2009 by Shetland-born dancer, choreographer and teacher, Joanna Kirkabister. Joanna has been passionate about dance since a young age and has been teaching dance classes for over 20 years. She has a wealth of experience in all styles of dance, from traditional Shetland dances to more contemporary styles. In 2009, Joanna decided to pursue her dream of creating a dance company dedicated to preserving the traditional dances of Shetland, as well as providing a platform for contemporary dance styles from across the UK.

Our Services

Kirkabister from Shetland offers a variety of services to both dancers and dance enthusiasts. We offer classes for all levels of experience, from beginners to advanced, as well as workshops and special events. We also provide private lessons and choreography services for those who wish to take their dancing to the next level.

Our Classes

Our classes are designed to provide an enjoyable and informative experience for all levels of dancers. We offer a wide range of classes, from traditional Shetland dances to more contemporary styles. Our classes are tailored to the individual needs of each student, allowing them to develop their skills and knowledge at their own pace. Our Workshops

Our workshops provide an opportunity to learn more about specific dance styles, as well as providing a platform for dancers of all levels to come together and share their knowledge and experiences. We also offer workshops for those who are interested in learning more about the history and culture of Shetland dance.

Our events are designed to bring together dancers of all ages, backgrounds and abilities in a safe and supportive environment. We also host events to celebrate traditional Shetland dances, as well as providing a platform for contemporary dance styles from across the UK.

Kirkabister from Shetland is located in Shetland, Scotland. We are a short drive away from the mainland and are easily accessible by car, train or ferry. Our studio is fully equipped with the latest equipment and is a safe and comfortable environment for all dancers.
