History

The palace was originally built in 1515 by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, the chief minister of King Henry VIII. After Wolsey fell out of favour with the King, he was forced to give up the palace to the King in 1529. Since then, the palace has been a royal residence and has been home to many monarchs, including King Charles I, King George II and Queen Victoria.
