What Dancers Say About Gem's Dance Academy

4.3/5 from 30 Google reviews.

My foster daughter has been attending the dance academy for the last 2 years and her experience so far has been amazing. My daughter has learning and physical disabilities but Gemma and the other coaches adapt the dances and make sure that she is able to participate. She has been involved in competitions (where she came first) and exams something we never thought she'd have the confidence to do. Her dancing ability has improved but more than that her confidence, self esteem and her self belief has grown immeasurably. We are so grateful to Gemma and the rest of the team. What a fantastic dance — Katie Allen

My autistic daughter first started at Gems Dance Academy in the acro class just over a year ago and was initially extremely shy and lacking in confidence. From the first moment we walked through the door we were made to feel welcome and within a very short amount of time we could see the progress she was making, both in her dance and in her confidence, so much so that she now takes part in yet more classes, competitions, exams and a recent show. She struggles so much at school but really thrives at Gems. Finally, a special shout out to Sarah who was our first impression of this dance school— Lesley Cowan-Jones

My daughter who is 9 and has adhd and autism has attended Gems dance academy for 9months. The time and effort the teachers put in for each and every student is fantastic. My daughter passed her first exams with over 80% 😁 layla has always struggled to feel like she fits in but from the minute she started Gems dance academy she felt welcomed and always part of the team. Layla loves it that much she now attends 4 days a week. Every dance teacher, mentor and parent of other students are so supportive as I was completely new to dance. Each and every person has made a special imprint on my our hear— Kim Hughes

It's an amazing school. Yes Gemma may seem a bit crazy 🤣 n a fun way and she might get annoyed sometimes and seem like she nags at us but she does it because she wants us to grow and make progress in our dance career and if she didn't nag and let us do what we wanted we wouldn't get very far but I tell you now she's the BEST. I may not have many friends but I'm proud to have such an amazing dance family. Gemma if you're reading this even though you Nag at me sometimes I understand why and I know you want the best out of me and love and care about me. Thanks for helping me grow through my dance— Kayne

Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is it to learn salsa?

Salsa's basic timing is quick to pick up, so most beginners are moving to the music within their first lesson. The finer points of turns and partnering develop steadily with practice.

Can a non-dancer learn salsa?

Yes, complete beginners make up much of any introductory salsa class. The steps are taught piece by piece, so no prior dance experience is expected.

Is it possible to learn ballet as an adult?

It certainly is, and adult ballet classes are designed to start from the basics at a sensible pace. Many people take it up later in life for the posture, control and enjoyment it brings.

What age is too late to start ballet?

For recreational dancing there is no age that is too late, and adults of all ages take up ballet successfully. Only a professional stage career carries the strict early-start expectations.

What are 5 basic steps in line dancing?

Frequently used moves include the grapevine, step-touch, kick-ball-change, pivot turn and shuffle. These recur across countless dances in different combinations.

What is the easiest line dance to learn for beginners?

The friendliest beginner dances use short, repeating sequences so you can lock in the rhythm quickly. Ask the academy which of their current routines is the gentlest introduction.
