Had a great first night at Emma Ledger Feelgood dance class, Years since I did anything like this so my coordination needs some work! But no one was made to feel they werenβt doing it right etc, so did my best and enjoyed it as did all the other ladies. Looking forward to the next classβ Mandy Cullen
Great "feeling good" adult class started by Emma last night suiting different age groups. Warm up followed by learning steps to great routine. Lovely class and enjoyable if you like dance and rhythm. Great fun, thanks Emma.β Sue Spooner
Start with a beginners' class where an instructor covers posture, timing and a few basic steps. You do not need a partner, as many classes rotate or pair people up during the session.
The waltz is a common first dance because its even rhythm makes the timing easy to feel. The social foxtrot is another gentle option that builds transferable posture and movement.
Salsa is approachable from the first lesson, built on a repeating basic step. Turns and partner work bring more challenge later, but the early stages usually feel quick to grasp.
Yes, salsa is one of the friendliest styles for complete beginners, and classes generally assume no background. Consistent practice of the basic step is what brings it together.
The grapevine, step-touch, kick-ball-change, pivot turn and shuffle are the core moves. Most beginner dances combine these in different orders.
Repetitive dances such as the Electric Slide are the usual easy introduction, using a small set of steps repeated on each wall. They help you learn the count without much to remember.
