Ellie Wright School of Dance has clearly earned the affection of its families, with reviews describing pupils who count down the days between lessons. One parent's child has trained here for eight years, studying ballet, musical theatre and jazz under a team the family adores. Stories of visiting professionals inspiring the students point to a school that thinks beyond the weekly class.
The school covers several performance-focused genres, from classical ballet through to musical theatre and modern jazz. What comes across most strongly in the feedback is the encouragement pupils receive, with teachers described as professional and genuinely invested in each child's ambitions.
Pupils here can study ballet, musical theatre and jazz, giving young dancers room to develop across complementary styles. Ballet supplies the technical backbone, while musical theatre brings performance and storytelling and jazz adds energy and dynamic movement. Beginners are grounded in the basics of each discipline before working towards more demanding material, and the range on offer lets a dancer find where their passion sits.
For a first lesson, arrive ready to take part and to listen carefully to the teacher. Comfortable, fitted clothing works well, along with appropriate soft shoes if the class calls for them. New starters are not expected to arrive with any experience.
Performance-led schools like this often build strong bonds within their community, bringing families together around shows and shared milestones. That sense of belonging tends to keep dancers coming back year after year.
Amazing school full of endless possibilities for students. Taught by excellent professional teachers.
Olivia is thriving in her dream of being a ballerina which wouldn't have been possible without the encouragement of Ellie and I cannot thank her and the other teachers enough!
The summer School is an amazing week where they have lots of fun and a perform a brilliant show at the end of the week! How they organise it in such a short space of time is beyond magical!!
This School offers so much for any budding ballerina, tap dancer, Irish dancer, jazz dancer and theatre performer!

My little one has been dancing with Miss Ellie and her amazing teaching team for 8 years. She simply adores all her teachers and dance lessons and can’t wait for the next one. She studies Ballet, Musical Theatre, and Jazz (Modern). All the teachers are so very knowledgeable and work hard to ensure the children have the best experiences and education. They are also super caring and supportive of their students and help them to achieve their dreams and goals, with a 100% success pass rate for all exams too. They are a dance school that genuinely cares about each an— Victoria Cocks
I would like to say a huge thank you to the Ellie Wright School of Dance for inviting Annie to spend some time in the studio with the students. Annie loved sharing her experiences at The Royal Ballet School and inspiring the students to revive their passion for ballet after spending so long training on zoom. The students were polite and welcoming and are a huge credit to your school. Thank you Miss Ellie and Miss Ella, and I Annie would love to return if you invite her again!— Nikki Crosby
Lovely welcoming school, with some extremely well qualified and experienced teachers. My daughter attends the Elite PBT classes and she has benefited enormously from Ellie's expertise. Love the look of the Summer School! Highly recommended.— Terry Crosby
Yes. Ballet, jazz and musical theatre are all danced solo, so no partner is needed. You can attend and take part entirely on your own.
Comfortable, fitted clothing that lets you move freely is ideal, with soft shoes suited to the style. Fitted clothes also help the teacher check your posture and technique.
Costs differ from school to school and depend on the class length and type. Contact the school directly for their current fees before signing up.
It comes down to what you enjoy, though ballet offers a strong technical grounding that helps with other styles. Picking a genre that excites you helps keep you going.
A style that matches your interests and fitness is usually the best bet, whether that is ballet, jazz or a social dance. Many adults enjoy starting with something they have always wanted to try.
Gentle, regular movement can support general heart health, but anyone with heart failure should speak to their doctor before starting. A medical professional can advise on what level of activity is safe for you.
