El Dance Studios is a friendly dance school based in the Hemsworth area of Pontefract, led by teacher Eleanor. It caters mostly for children and young dancers who are keen to build technique, confidence and a genuine love of moving to music. Families who have settled here tend to look forward to their weekly session, and beginners are made to feel part of things from the very first lesson.
Parents describe a warm, encouraging place where nervous newcomers quickly find their feet and grow in self-belief. The tone is patient and personal, with a teacher who keeps each dancer's progress and wellbeing at the centre of what happens in the room.
Classes here lean towards ballet and structured technique work, with attention paid to posture, core strength and musicality as pupils develop. Whether you are booking dance classes in Pontefract for a first-timer or looking to keep an improver progressing, sessions are pitched to suit the age and stage of the dancer. Adults curious about adult dance classes in Pontefract, or anyone wondering about line dancing in Pontefract, are best contacting the studio directly to see what is currently running.
A first visit usually means joining a taster session so a newcomer can settle in without pressure. Comfortable clothing you can move in and soft shoes are a sensible starting point, and the teacher will advise on anything specific once you have been along.
The studio sits within the Hemsworth part of Pontefract, an easy trip for families across the surrounding villages. Off-street parking and public transport in the wider area make a regular weekly class straightforward to build into the routine.
My daughter waited for a Ballet class with Miss Eleanor to be on a day she could attend & I'm glad she stuck the wait out & got to experience classes at El Dance.
Loving dance already she wanted to start ballet.
She needed to improve her core strength & posture plus build strong muscles around her joints, with low impact exercise. Miss Eleanor has been amazing at building the right muscles to support her joints & this helps hold her body together! Her doctor always comments that dance helps and that is down to dance teachers who watch over her technique in class & ensure she's dancing within h— kathryn swift

My Daughter has been a student of Miss Eleanor's for nearly 2 years now and what she has done for my daughter's confidence and self believe is amazing. She is professional, caring and always has her students best interests first. The Dance school it's self is a very friendly and welcoming environment and all us dance mum's that have children there are always very supportive of eachothers children and for eachother. Common building blocks include the grapevine, the step-touch, the kick-ball-change, the shuffle and a simple pivot turn. String a few of these together and you already have the shape of most beginner routines.
Gentle four-wall dances with repeating patterns are the friendliest starting point, as the same short sequence simply repeats as you turn to face each wall. A beginner class will introduce one of these first so the steps become second nature quickly.
Yes, plenty of dancing needs no partner at all, from ballet and technique classes to line dancing and solo styles. It is one of the reasons these classes suit people who are joining on their own.
Something comfortable that lets you bend and stretch is ideal, along with soft, flat footwear to begin with. The studio can confirm whether a particular class calls for any specific shoes once you enrol.
Fees vary with the length and type of class and whether you pay per session or by the term. For current pricing it is best to ask the studio directly, as they can explain the options for your dancer.
That depends on what appeals to you, though ballet gives a strong technical grounding for younger dancers while relaxed social styles suit those who mainly want to enjoy moving. Trying a taster is the surest way to find the right fit.
