I have been attending Dances School Step by Step in Ruislip since it opened and have loved all the time I have spent there. The teachers are absolutely brilliant – engaging and entertaining. The simultaneous manage to teach beginners and improvers, lessons are great fun and a good workout. Whether you are interested in just learning the basics or working on your ballroom technique, these classes cover all bases. They even ran a Strictly style competition in February 2019, while the prospect was quite scary, with their teaching it became a wonderful event. I never imagined in my lifetime I woul— louise thomas
Fun and fit is the feeling I get after these classes. The teaching is attentive, friendly and caters from absolute beginners to exam grades and competition. Having both male and female teachers means everyone gets the best guidance possible and my dancing has improved so much, but has also helped other aspects of my life like HIIT classes, barre core, and overall posture and core strength. The routines are great, taking a leaf out of competition standard routines then made easy, literally step-by-step, for beginners. A class here feels like being in the film Strictly Ballroom!— P B
Amazing teachers, fun , friendly , knowledgeable and non pushy. The teachers , teach all levels and if you walk in on your own, you are instantly part of the group. I have been attending classes both in a group and on my own since last year and thoroughly enjoy myself as well as trying to improve my dance technique. However if you just love Strictly and want to learn the moves, this is the class for you— Vikki Benn
Really enjoy classes with Step by Step – nothing is too much trouble and it is a great way to have ‘me time’ and learn something new as well – just love it !— Tamsin Brewis

Styles with repeating steps that can be danced solo, such as line dancing, are kind to beginners. The best choice also depends on the music you most enjoy.
Many adults begin with a social ballroom or Latin dance, or with line dancing, because the basics come quickly. Pick a style whose music appeals to you and you are more likely to keep it up.
Gentle dancing can be a pleasant form of exercise, but anyone with heart failure should speak to their doctor before starting. A medical professional can advise on what level of activity is safe for you.
