Blue Butterfly Studios operates from the Swan Centre in Eastleigh and has earned a devoted following among local families. Children often start young, moving up through the age groups as they grow, and parents repeatedly mention gains in self-esteem and confidence. The team is praised for treating every child as an individual, no small feat given the numbers they teach. It is a warm, encouraging environment built around performance and progress.
Run as a dance company with a busy programme of classes and shows, Blue Butterfly caters mainly to children and young people. Instructors, including Amy, are described as nurturing and inspiring, creating a professional setting that still feels personal. Showtime performances give pupils a goal to work towards and a taste of the stage.
The studio offers a rounded selection of dance classes in Eastleigh, from early years right up to more advanced work. Ballet classes in Eastleigh build the technical foundations, while tap, showtime and stage styles add variety and sparkle. Grown-ups are welcome too, with adult dance classes in Eastleigh giving parents and others a chance to try something new. For those curious about partnered and social forms, elements reminiscent of ballroom dancing in Eastleigh and the friendly, step-based fun of line dancing in Eastleigh feed into the wider timetable.
Come along in clothing that moves easily and bring soft shoes suitable for dance, plus a drink. First-timers are welcomed warmly and eased in, so no prior experience is expected. Speak to a member of the team when you arrive and they will point you in the right direction.
Eastleigh has an active community feel, and studios like this one often take part in local shows and events. Joining a class can be a friendly way to become part of that scene while keeping active.
My daughter has been at Blue Butterfly Studio from the age of 5. She started off as a Caterpillar, once at school we changed classes and took up Tap and Showtime. We have now added Ballet to the mix and Dramatix.
I started my daughter with Blue Butterfly as she was always singing and dancing, a right happy soul. I wanted to embrace that quality. By joining Blue Butterfly she has made friends, other than school friends. She has grown in confidence. She can be a little sassy at times but i see it as her personality growing.
As a parent I like to help Chaperoning when it’s Showtime. The childre— Natalie Keigher

Absolutely brilliant dance company!
My daughter was lacking in self esteem and confidence until she joined Blue Butterflies. She started at an after school club and done a few dances in the last show, which has given her the bug to do more! She now participates in the Showtime class and will perform a lot more than previous, she’s even bagged herself a solo!!! My nervous, little girl is now full of confidence and sass, and has formed into a true butterfly 🦋
Thank you Amy and team u guys work so hard and it really does make a difference!!— Steph Mills

Beginners usually start with a group class that introduces basic hold, timing and a first dance. Private lessons can follow later for those wanting to polish their skills.
The waltz is a popular first choice because its slow rhythm makes the counts clear. Teachers sometimes begin with a livelier dance depending on the class.
Yes. Plenty of adults take up ballet later in life, and classes aimed at grown-ups focus on gradual progress and enjoyment rather than early training.
There is no age at which recreational ballet becomes off-limits. Adults of any age can learn and benefit from the technique.
Common building blocks include the grapevine, the kick-ball-change, the shuffle, the pivot turn and the heel dig. Most beginner routines combine a handful of these into a repeating sequence.
Simple, well-known routines with short repeating sequences tend to be easiest, as the same steps come round again and again. A teacher will usually start you on one of these before adding variety.
