Birmingham Royal Ballet was established in 1946 by two of the most influential figures in ballet history, Dame Ninette de Valois and Sir Frederick Ashton. The company quickly became one of the most respected ballet companies in the UK, touring nationally and internationally.
In 1990, the company moved to its current home in Birmingham’s historic Hippodrome Theatre. Since then, the company has continued to produce a wide range of classical and contemporary works, as well as commissioning new works from some of the world’s leading choreographers.
Birmingham Royal Ballet’s repertoire includes a wide range of classical and contemporary works. The company’s productions of the classics include Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker and Giselle. The company also presents a number of contemporary works, such as Christopher Wheeldon’s Aeternum, David Bintley’s Carmina Burana and Twyla Tharp’s The Princess and the Goblin.
The company performs at a number of venues across the UK, including the Birmingham Hippodrome, the London Coliseum, the Edinburgh Festival Theatre and the Sadler’s Wells Theatre. Birmingham Royal Ballet also tours internationally, performing at venues in the United States, Europe and Asia.
