History

Aberdeen Grammar School was founded in 1257 by Bishop William Elphinstone. It was originally a Latin school, teaching Latin, Greek and Hebrew. In 1617, the school was granted a charter by King James VI, which allowed it to become an independent school. In the 19th century, the school moved to its current location on Skene Street.
