MPA Studios

MPA Studios is a dance school in Bedlington, Northumberland, offering classes for children and young people across a range of styles. Based at the Earth Balance site, it has built a loyal following among local families thanks to its encouraging teachers and varied programme. It is a good fit for young dancers of all ages, including the very youngest starting out for the first time.

About MPA Studios

The feedback from families is warm and consistent, describing patient teachers who coax shy children into joining in and help pupils grow from hiding at the back to leading from the front. One young dancer calls it their happy place, a phrase that captures the supportive spirit reviewers keep returning to. With children starting as young as three and something to suit different interests, it is a school built around confidence as much as skill.

Classes & Dance Styles

MPA offers a spread of dance and movement classes designed to develop coordination, confidence and technique as pupils progress. Sessions are pitched by age and ability, so younger children learn through play while older students take on new challenges and refine what they know. A typical class combines a warm-up, skill-building and putting movements together into routines, with plenty of encouragement along the way. To find the right class for your child's age and interests, it is worth getting in touch to see what is currently running.

What to Expect on Your First Visit

A first session is all about settling in, and the teachers are experienced at helping nervous or younger children feel comfortable and included. Wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement, and ask ahead about suitable footwear for the particular class. There is no need for any experience, just a willingness to give it a try.

Location & Contact

Bedlington sits in south-east Northumberland, and the Earth Balance site is a recognisable local venue within the area. The school is convenient for families travelling in from the surrounding towns and villages.

What Dancers Say About MPA Studios

5/5 from 9 Google reviews.

My daughters both started at MPA at age 3. After a while of my youngest daughter going, she went through a phase where she cried at most things where she had to leave me. The dance teachers were amazing at encouraging her to join in. It was the best thing we did!!
She is now about to turn 10 and will be entering a solo competition at the weekend. We never dreamt she’d do this!
I truly believe it was because of the teachers and their care for her as an individual, that we got over that phase and have ‘brought her on’.

My daughter continues to love dancing!!!— Gillian Trood

I have been going the MPA studios for nearly a year now and I can't recommend them enough! I have previously done a range of different fitness classes and MPA has something for everyone. All of MPA's staff are extremely passionate about what they do and friendly. All the classes have different routines/workouts each week and are adaptable for everyone's own needs. If you're looking for a fun and family friendly environment, this is the place to be.— Charlotte Brass

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you learn to dance without a partner?

Yes. Most classes here are taught individually or in groups where no partner is needed, so children and young people take part fully on their own. It is the usual way dance is learned at this stage.

What should I wear to a beginner dance class?

Comfortable clothing that allows plenty of movement is ideal, along with footwear suited to the particular style. If you are unsure what shoes are needed, the studio can advise before your first class.

How much does a dance class usually cost?

Costs vary depending on the style, the length of the class and whether you book a term or a single session. The studio can share current rates and any options for regular attendance if you ask.

Which dance is best for beginners?

The best beginner style depends on the child's interests, but classes designed for their age group ease them in gently whatever the discipline. The studio can suggest a suitable starting class.

What is the best dance to start as an adult?

This studio focuses on classes for children and young people, but for adults a sociable, forgiving style is usually the easiest way in. Choosing something you find fun matters more than picking any particular dance.

Is dancing good for heart failure?

Light, regular movement can support general wellbeing for many people, but anyone with a heart condition should seek medical advice before starting and tell their teacher so activity can be kept appropriate.
