What Dancers Say About Strictly Salsa

This is the best thing I've done in years. I've been promising to go and learn salsa for such a long time and now I'm regretting not doing it years ago. Trisha is an excellent and passionate coach, the group is of mixed ages with everyone so engaging and the social event is electric. No messing about though, it's full on but the one hour lesson goes far too quickly. If you've thought about doing this but are scared you'll be the one who stands out because you're the 'new kid on the block'… BRUSH THOSE FEARS ASIDE! We were all new once, and we all took that first step… but Trisha is the p— Deborah Carr

I have been following Strictly Salsa on Facebook for about 5 years. For almost two decades, Trisha Lee at Strictly Salsa has been providing first class expert tuition and guidance to different groups of dancers at different levels. I have watched many many videos of her group and individual dances. It’s clear to me that her dance learners look well instructed and well coordinated and appear to be enjoying dancing and learning… and I certainly enjoyed watching, studying and learning from these videos. 😊 I liked some of them so much that I ended up reproducing them 😊

I have been lucky enough to be taught by Trisha for sometime now. Her classes are well structured from absolute beginners, which is always a much more individual lesson, into beginners with a clear syllabus which repeats every 8 weeks so can be repeated if required. Once into improvers (level 2 ) the syllabus continues adding to the basics by introducing turn patterns and improving techniques in leading and following. For those that get the bug the lessons are repeated at Wetherby and York so you can practise twice a week. Level 3 or advanced is the goal for those who want to be challenged to— Andrea Susan Campbell

Trisha is passionate about teaching Salsa, she wants her students to be as good as they can be. Emphasis on footwork, body positioning, etc
all the essentials for dancing, with structured lessons for beginners which provides the foundation for progression. Very welcoming and friendly with lots of dancing before and after lessons. I would highly recommend Trisha for beginners as well as improves.— Sabine Kear

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you start ballroom dancing?

Most people begin with a beginner class covering hold, posture and a few basic steps at an easy pace. No partner or experience is needed, just comfortable shoes and a willingness to try.

What ballroom dance to learn first?

The waltz is a common first choice because its slow, flowing rhythm makes the timing easier to feel. Some prefer to start with a livelier dance, so it comes down to preference.

How hard is it to learn salsa?

Salsa is very approachable at beginner level, resting on a simple repeating rhythm and a few core steps. Most people find the timing within a class or two, and a repeating syllabus helps it stick.

Can a non-dancer learn salsa?

Yes, absolutely. Beginner sessions here assume no experience and are often given more individual attention, so people who have never danced before can start with confidence.

Is it possible to learn ballet as an adult?

Yes, adults can take up ballet and benefit from the posture, strength and control it builds. Adult classes are paced for grown-up learners with no expectation of earlier training.

What age is too late to start ballet?

It is never too late to begin ballet as a hobby. People start well into later life and work at a level that matches their own fitness and flexibility.
