Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is it to learn salsa?

The basic step is easy enough to learn in your first lesson, so progress feels quick to begin with. Timing, spins and connecting with a partner develop more slowly, which is where regular classes and social practice pay off.

Can a non-dancer learn salsa?

Yes, and many people arrive having never danced at all. Beginner sessions teach the movement from the very start, so a lack of experience is no obstacle.

Can you learn to dance without a partner?

Yes. You are welcome to come along on your own, as dancers commonly rotate partners through a class. This makes it easy to join even if you have no one to bring.

What should I wear to a beginner dance class?

Comfortable clothing that lets you move freely is ideal, with shoes that turn cleanly on the floor rather than gripping or sticking. There is no need for anything specialist to start.

How much does a dance class usually cost?

Fees vary depending on the class and whether you pay per session or by block. The school can tell you its current rates, so it is best to check with them directly.

Which dance is best for beginners?

Salsa is a rewarding starting point because early progress comes quickly and the social side makes it enjoyable. Ultimately the best dance is the one whose music and movement you most enjoy.
