Tango Lingua specialises in Argentine tango, teaching from the Friends Meeting House on Ordnance Road in Southampton. Its lessons draw praise for clear, confident instruction that untangles why a move is or is not working, rather than just drilling steps. Couples preparing for weddings and visitors passing through the city alike have found the teaching precise and approachable. The focus throughout is on a single dance done well.
The school concentrates on tango, offering both group classes and private tuition in a calm meeting-house setting. Lessons are known for careful correction and a patient, methodical approach to technique.
Tango teaching here builds the walk, the embrace and the timing that give the dance its character, with private sessions available when a couple wants dedicated attention. Although the school's heart is in tango, people browsing more broadly for dance classes in Southampton or dance lessons in Southampton will find experienced, one-to-one coaching here. Those searching for salsa classes in Southampton, line dancing in Southampton or ballet classes in Southampton should note this is a tango specialist and ask locally for those styles. For a first tango lesson, wear comfortable clothing and shoes that let you pivot smoothly on the ball of the foot. Couples preparing for an event can mention their music and timeframe so the sessions can be planned around it.
Ordnance Road lies close to Southampton city centre, within easy reach of its shops and waterfront.
My partner and I have been having private lessons with Joe for a little while now in preparation for our wedding. Joe is a really incredible teacher. He is clear, confident and corrects mistakes so wonderfully. He also makes an effort to understand and discuss why a move isn't working to help us best correct it. And, most importantly, every session is so much fun and we always laugh! I'm so grateful to Joe for his patience in teaching us to tango! I'd recommend Joe in a heartbeat. I'd also thoroughly recommend learning Argentine Tango – it's a really wonderful way of connecting and moving and — Rhiannon Woodhead
I booked a couples Tango lesson for my Wife and I, the lesson was very enjoyable, we have a young daughter and rarely have time to ourselves, this lesson was for 2 hours but the time just flew by, Joe is extremely professional, he will make you feel comfortable and install a self confidence in you from the moment the misic is turned on. We can highly recommend Joe, just give tango a go and you will enjoy it.— Mike Cutler
After an overnight flight from Texas to London, we arrived in Southampton eager to review our Tango “skills” before cruising the next day. Joe was an excellent instructor and we learned so much in this lesson. After our cruise, we will spend several days in Southampton and we plan to take more lessons with Tango Joe if time allows. He is a great instructor!

Joe is a great teacher ! I've had class and private lessons with him and have learned a lot from both . He explains things clearly and finds ways of teaching suitable for beginners like me but also more advanced dancers, keeping the student engaged and challenged while slowly building confidence in tango .Thankyou Joe 😊— juliet james

Yes, salsa is open to complete beginners. Classes start from the basics, so no experience is required.
Ballet can be taken up at any age, with many schools running adult beginner classes. Steady practice is what drives progress.
There is no upper age limit for enjoying ballet recreationally. Adults begin at all stages of life.
Typical steps include the grapevine, the step-touch, the kick-ball-change, the pivot turn and the shuffle. These recur throughout beginner routines.
