Just wanted to say THANK YOU to Mel & Chris from Absolute Balroom Dance for helping us to learn an amazing choreography for our wedding. We have no words to express how grateful we are for the time and effort you put into this. You created an excellent dance for us – everything what we wished for.
On the night the dance routine was a real success and our guests were very impressed – it is a memory we will treasure always as part of our special day.
We would strongly recommend Absolute Ballroom Dance to anyone who wants to learn to dance for a wedding or any other occasion. They are such a genu— Marta Markov

We started learning to dance in Feb this year. From the very first lesson Mel and Chris made us feel welcome, comfortable and most importantly for us like we weren't wasting their time. Each week we have been patiently tutored by Chris and Mel and we can honestly say it's the highlight of our week. My personal favourite is the tango but each dance that is taught is done slowly, thoroughly and is great fun. If you just do one new thing this year then make sure you learn to dance with these two. You will absolutely love it!!— Debra Morley

As someone who had 2 left feet I never thought I would be able to dance. Well 6 months later I think I can safely say how wrong I was, all you need is a good teacher(s) who have patience and that certain ability to show you in the simplest way HOW to dance. Mel and Chris have both. We have learned so much and have had a fun time learning. A great way to spend a Sunday tea time. Absolutely brilliant. Come and give it a try, you won't be disappointed. Linda and Chris— Chris Barrowcliffe

We have been having lessons with Mel and Chris for one year! We have thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt so much more than we thought possible (although it still takes a while for the steps to get from our heads to our feet!). Mel and Chris have given us confidence, which we never had before, and they are super patient and encouraging. If anyone wants to learn to dance this is the place to do it – great teachers, great fun in a relaxed atmosphere.— Cilla Simpson

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you learn to dance without a partner?

Yes; many people attend on their own and learn steps that can be practised solo before pairing up. It is a common and welcome way to begin.

What should I wear to a beginner dance class?

Comfortable clothes and smooth-soled shoes that let you turn are the main considerations. Avoid heavy-grip trainers, which can catch on the floor.

How much does a dance class usually cost?

Prices vary with the area and format, and group classes are generally cheaper than private lessons. It is best to check directly for current rates.

Which dance is best for beginners?

The waltz and social foxtrot are popular first choices for their steady timing. In the end, the best dance is whichever you most enjoy returning to.

What is the best dance to start as an adult?

Adults often begin with the waltz or a relaxed social dance, since the pace is forgiving and the steps build gradually. Latin styles work well too for anyone wanting more energy.

Is dancing good for heart failure?

Gentle dancing can be an enjoyable form of light exercise, but a GP should be consulted by anyone with heart failure first. A medical professional can advise on a safe level of activity.
