Classes & Dance Styles

Argentine tango is the heart of what is on offer, taught progressively from first steps through to more advanced musicality and partner work. As one of the more distinctive dance classes in London, tango rewards regular attendance, and students often build from a couple of hours a week to considerably more. Those exploring dance lessons in London or adult dance classes in London will find tango a rich, absorbing discipline that differs from the salsa classes in London, ballet classes in London or line dancing in London they might also be weighing up. It is worth asking about the class structure so you can join at the right level.

What to Expect on Your First Visit

For a first tango class, wear something you can move comfortably in and shoes with a smooth sole that allows you to pivot and glide. Partners are usually rotated, so you can attend alone and still dance throughout the session. Come ready to listen closely, as tango places real emphasis on connection and timing.

What Dancers Say About Tango Space – Argentine Tango School

4.9/5 from 88 Google reviews.

Tango Space really hits the right balance. Classes are fun, friendly and varied but also pack some serious tuition. I've been most impressed by the teachers' dedication and warmth – they are really committed to their students. You feel treated like an individual – even during large group classes – given personal pointers tailored to your standard and helped throughout to master these.

There is further support outside lessons with newsletters and all number of other special classes. The variety and potential to get involved and progress here is superb! What I like though, is the relaxed enviro— Georgie Humble

Naomi, Pablo and Anne are some of the friendliest tango teachers I know. Always engaging and likeable, they make sure that all their students come away loving tango even more.
Their classes are detailed and well structured. I particularly enjoy their musicality classes.
Dalston practica on Thursday is a great place to go and practice your new steps or revise old ones. Pablo plays all traditional music with a good mix for beginner or experienced dancers. Plus if you don't feel like dancing you can also chat and relax with a great group of people, with a tea, mate or glass of wine.

I took my first ever class a year ago and because of university commitments I couldn't attend again. Still I left such a great impression on me that a year later I searched them again and started going, first two hours a week and now four hours a week. I am short of one month into the classes and I must say I enjoy them tremendously, I look forward to them every week.
I'm Argentinian so I wanted to find a place that would teach Argentine tango the way I've always known it to be, as an intimate yet social dance that doesn't rely on choreography but does on emotion, true to it's essence. Tango — Geraldine Ruffier d'Epenoux

Pablo and Naomi are amazing teachers. Unlike in many other classes where you learn a series of steps that you will soon forget, Pablo and Naomi spend a lot of time and energy making sure you get the posture right, and make you work over and over again the basic steps of Tango (and you can do so much with them!) until its gets into your body.
They really care about their students, and pay attention to their movement in order to help them improve. Naomi is particularly amazing at teaching followers, giving us tons of tips to make our dancing more elegant.
I think Tango Space is one of the best c— Marion M

Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is it to learn salsa?

Salsa is among the easier partner dances to start, built on a simple repeating step. Argentine tango, by contrast, is more improvised and takes longer to feel natural, though many find that depth rewarding.

Can a non-dancer learn salsa?

Yes, salsa classes are designed for absolute beginners and assume no experience. The same welcoming approach applies to beginner tango, where steps are introduced gradually.

Is it possible to learn ballet as an adult?

It certainly is, and many adults take up ballet purely for enjoyment and fitness. Beginner adult ballet classes start with the fundamentals and progress at a comfortable pace.

What age is too late to start ballet?

There is no upper limit for learning ballet as a hobby. Adults of any age can benefit from the posture, strength and grace it develops, provided the classes are pitched for beginners.

What are 5 basic steps in line dancing?

The grapevine, step-touch, kick-ball-change, shuffle and pivot turn are common building blocks. Most line dances combine these familiar moves into a repeating sequence.

What is the easiest line dance to learn for beginners?

Short routines built on grapevines and step-touches that repeat in each direction are the gentlest to begin with. Their repetition makes them quick to memorise.
