Operating from a railway arch on Bancroft Road in Globe Town, Yagori Gypsy music & dance group, also known as Gypsydance UK, is a performing arts group centred on Romany and belly dance. Led by Saeeda, a teacher with a professional dance background, it introduces students to a colourful, expressive tradition full of swirling skirts and swift movement. Reviewers describe a dance that feels like freedom while still demanding real work. The setting is professional yet supportive, more like a dancing family than a formal classroom.
Unlike a general studio, this group specialises in Romany gypsy dance and belly dance rather than ballroom, ballet or Latin styles. Saeeda is described as versatile, teaching not only the movement itself but also the performance skills and cultural history behind it. That depth of knowledge is a recurring theme in what students say.
As a distinctive strand within the wider world of dance classes in London, the group focuses on Romany and belly dance rather than the usual salsa or ballet routes. Students learn expressive technique, musicality and stagecraft, developing both the steps and the confidence to perform them. Those searching dance lessons London for something rooted in a living folk tradition will find a specialist home here. Class levels and formats vary, so ask what is currently running before you join.
Wear something you can move freely in, with a flowing skirt often adding to the feel once you are settled in. Arrive early to meet Saeeda and learn how the session is structured. No prior experience is needed to begin.
Globe Town sits in Bethnal Green in east London, close to Victoria Park and Mile End, with Underground and bus links nearby.
I have started Gypsy dancing last September and i love it. Such a beautiful, colourful and joyful dance that gives the opportunity to truly express oneself. Saeeda provides great classes and teaching, and is always happy to share her knowldege, and to help her students to improve their technique and expression. The classes are very welcoming, with great atmosphere between students. The levels are mixed, that is great to review basics as well as progress quickly. Highly recommended to any student (M/F) new to dancing or trained dancer who wants to learn a new style and challenge him/herself, an— Solène Debaisieux
As one watches gypsy dance, the first thing that comes to mind is freedom and passion. Its a beautiful dance with colourful skirts and swift moves but be sure it’s also a fair amount of hard work behind it.
The environment is both professional and supportive, more like a dancing family. Saeeda (the dance teacher and our muse) is a professionally trained ethical dancer and often stays after the class to help anyone who is keen to learn. And the best bit is that there is an opportunity to perform on a stage! And many students do as soon as after a year of training. Having tried quite a few dan— Anna Klitovchenko
Saeeda is a professional and versatile belly dance and Romany dance teacher. Having a professional dance background growing up, Saeeda is a versatile dancer and teacher, who can teach not only the dance itself, but important performance skills as well. Saeeda studies the history and origins of dance deeply to deliver appropriate nuances of multiple different types of bellydance such as those from Egypt and Turkey, and, in addition Romany dances from Romania, Kalbelia from India and the unique Gypsy dance from Russia! I was fortunate to learn Russian Gypsy dance from Saeeda and enjoyed the chan— Maria Ivanova
I am very greatful for the chance that i joined Saeeda's classes few years ago, otherwise I would miss the chance to enjoy dancing in my life, dancing a real complicated dance style (not a dance in the club))). If I wouldn't start it that time how tuff my life would have be? Thank you so much Saeeda for making it happened, for your Inspiration, passion and energy that you give to it and to other people.— Yury Khreptovich
Salsa is learnable for most people once the basic timing becomes familiar, which is the main early challenge. A few weeks of regular practice usually brings social confidence, though this group specialises in other styles.
Yes. Salsa classes elsewhere are designed for complete beginners, and most dancers start with no experience. Regular attendance matters more than natural talent.
It is, through classes built for adult beginners. Progress is gradual, but the benefits to strength, posture and coordination arrive early.
No age is too late to enjoy ballet as a student. Adult beginner classes welcome every age and prioritise technique and pleasure over a professional path.
Typical basics include the grapevine, step-touch, kick-ball-change, pivot turn and shuffle, combined into short repeating sequences. Line dancing sits outside this group's specialism, which is Romany and belly dance.
Short routines with a simple repeating pattern are the easiest to pick up, and dancing in unison lets you follow the group. For folk-rooted expression, however, styles like Romany dance offer a different route in.
