What Dancers Say About Dance Studio Reading Sharon Vickers

5/5 from 9 Google reviews.

I've always enjoyed dancing; & have been practicing Latin & Ballroom; Strictly Style for 3 years now.

Sharon and her team have really brought out the inner latin diva out in me 😉 & from basic beginnings I am now dancing in competitions at Silver Level. I have also taken part in some samba cabaret shows and my passion for dance has made a huge impact on my life; so much so that I even now teach a dance fitness class myself which enables me to share my passion with others.

I came to know Sharon as she teaches the Reading University Ballroom, Latin and Salsa society. I then started coming to her studio and competing in the medalist circuit. I have improved massively in a short space of time. All the teachers here are extremely knowledgable and very encouraging. All those who teach here are of the best ballroom and latin dancers in the UK and you can really tell by their knowledge and passion.— Jodie Kenvin

I could highly recommend Sharon as a great children’s teacher. My daughter loves it there.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you start ballroom dancing?

The simplest way to begin is to join a beginner ballroom class, where a teacher introduces the basic steps and posture at an easy pace. You do not need experience or, in most cases, a partner. From there you build gradually towards the fuller dances.

What ballroom dance to learn first?

The waltz is a popular first choice, thanks to its steady rhythm and gentle rise and fall, which help newcomers grasp the fundamentals of movement and frame. Many teachers begin here before moving on to livelier dances.

Can you learn to dance without a partner?

Yes. Group ballroom and Latin classes usually rotate dancers so you can take part alone, and private lessons can be taken solo with the teacher. Turning up without a partner is entirely normal.

What should I wear to a beginner dance class?

Comfortable clothing you can move in is ideal, along with smooth-soled shoes rather than trainers, which grip the floor and hinder turning. For ballroom and Latin, footwear that lets you glide makes a real difference.

How much does a dance class usually cost?

Costs vary with format and location, and group classes generally cost less than private lessons. Booking a block of lessons often works out more economical than paying each time.

Which dance is best for beginners?

For ballroom, the waltz is a gentle introduction, while those wanting something livelier might try a Latin style such as the cha-cha. The best choice is ultimately the one you find most enjoyable, since that keeps you coming back.
