JD Studio, tucked into Ashley Crescent in Sholing, Southampton, is a well-equipped space that draws a real mix of people. A former professional dancer praised its clean, mirrored studio, quality flooring and sound system, while others enjoy its fitness sessions and use it to host celebrations. Julie, who runs classes here, is described as a patient teacher with an eye for safety. It is a versatile facility as much as a place to learn.
JD Studio functions both as a hireable dance and event space and as a venue for classes such as pole fitness, so it is not solely a traditional teaching school. That said, the sessions on offer are well regarded, with Julie praised for structured, friendly and effective instruction. The studio itself, with its mirrors, flooring and sound, is a genuine asset for anyone dancing or training there.
As a facility contributing to the wider dance classes in Southampton, JD Studio hosts a mix of fitness and movement sessions rather than a full academic dance syllabus. The space lends itself well to varied dance lessons in Southampton, and its professional set-up suits practice across many styles. While it is primarily a studio and hire venue rather than a school teaching ballet classes in Southampton or salsa classes in Southampton directly, its facilities make it a useful base for adult dance classes in Southampton and for dancers wanting quality space to train, including those interested in line dancing in Southampton.
If you are attending a class here, wear comfortable activewear suited to the session and bring water, as some classes are a full-body workout. Check with the class organiser about any specific footwear or kit you might need. Arrive a little early to familiarise yourself with the studio.
Southampton has a busy and varied dance and fitness scene, and a well-equipped studio like this supports that in practical terms. Whether for classes, practice or events, it adds to the options available locally.
As a former professional dancer I found this place amazing, very clean and equipped with mattress, good size mirrors and perfect flooring.
Also the sound system is great. I enjoyed visiting the studios and using the facilities to help me get my confidence back and teach my son some cool moves.

The theme was perfect with the ribbons and chair decorations. Friendly staff who went beyond to make tonight special. Photo booth was brilliant and would recommend, would recommend this hall for any function. Will definitely book future parties here. 👍— Kerrie Mountford
I attend Julie's pole fitness class on Tuesday mornings. The lessons are well structured, friendly and fun, and offer an excellent full body workout. Julie is a very patient teacher, who's attention to safety is second to none. I can't rate Julie, her lessons or the studio highly enough.— Emily Blackledge
Great Pilates class. Always varies and uses lots of different equipment— Valerie Woodmore
The basic salsa step is quick to learn, often within a first session. Building turns and timing takes more practice, which regular attendance makes enjoyable.
Yes. Beginner salsa is designed for complete newcomers, introducing the steps gradually so you can soon dance a simple routine.
It is entirely possible. Adult ballet classes cater to those starting later in life, focusing on gradual progress and enjoyment.
There is no upper age limit for recreational ballet. Adults of any age can take it up and benefit from it.
Common steps include the grapevine, the shuffle, the kick-ball-change, the pivot turn and the heel dig. Beginner dances usually string several of these together into a repeating pattern.
Short routines built from repeating sequences of familiar steps are the easiest place to start. A teacher will typically begin you on one of these before adding variety.
