Winchester City Dance is an absolutely amazing dance school. Since joining over a year ago, I have had nothing but positive and exciting Ballet lessons. My confidence, technique and attitude has improved massively – as a result of the level of expertise (and friendliness!) within this dance school. Since moving out of Winchester for a few months, I have absolutely no interest in going anywhere else (based in London!!) – as Carmel is such an amazing teacher. Would absolutely recommend to any adult looking for themselves, or for their child.— Eliz Yusuf
My child has been going to baby ballet classes here for over a year now, and she loves it. Carmel is a great teacher, very approachable and super friendly. She has great relations with kids too. She creates a theme for every week and children enjoy themselves very much with music, costumes, and props. My child loves the classes and we are happy with the experience ourselves! Parents also have the opportunity to watch a performance at the end of the term. Very reasonably priced classes as well. Strongly recommended!— Filiz Taylan Yuzak
Carmel is an excellent teacher with a wealth of knowledge. Each class is highly enjoyable and truly a wonderfully accepting place to be. Carmel ensures that each student pushes themselves to achieve their own goals whatever their age or ability. Highly recommend— Bronwyn Flower
Carmel's adult classes are excellent! She makes it fun and pushes you to your level. It's really easy to join a class and pick up the exercises and routines. The other dancers in the class are great fun. Really great way to keep fit. The classes fly by!— Jennifer
The basic salsa step is easy to pick up, usually in a first lesson. The turns and timing that follow take more practice, but they are also where much of the fun lies.
Yes. Beginner classes are designed for people with no background, introducing the steps gradually until you can dance a simple routine confidently.
Absolutely, and adult beginners are well catered for here. Classes focus on gradual progress, technique and enjoyment rather than early training.
There is no age at which recreational ballet becomes off-limits. Adults of any age can learn the technique and enjoy its benefits.
Typical building blocks include the grapevine, the shuffle, the kick-ball-change, the pivot turn and the heel dig. Beginner routines usually combine several of these into a repeating sequence.
Routines with short, repeating sequences of well-known steps are the easiest to start with, since the same moves keep coming round. A teacher will usually begin you on one of these.
