Feet First Dance in Wylam has earned devoted praise from families whose children have grown up through its classes. Parents speak of years spent watching a love of dance take hold, with a firm focus on fun and taking part. The teaching is described as encouraging, creative and patient. It is a small-community school where children clearly feel at home.
The school centres on developing skills while keeping enjoyment at the forefront, and teachers are noted for going above and beyond for their pupils. Several families have stayed for six years or more, a sign of the steady, friendly environment.
Classes are built around creativity and participation, helping children build coordination, rhythm and confidence over time. Sessions are grouped so that younger and older pupils are taught at a suitable level, and the emphasis on fun keeps them coming back week after week. The approach favours nurturing a lasting enjoyment of dance rather than pushing children too hard too soon.
For a first session, comfortable clothing suited to movement and appropriate footwear are all that is needed. Arriving a few minutes early helps a child settle before the class starts.
Wylam and the neighbouring Tyne Valley villages have a close community feel, and local events give young dancers occasions to share their progress.
Feet First Dance is a fabulous place! I have 2 daughters, one who has now reached 18 (so sadly had to leave) and another aged 16 (who is still participating) – the experience they have had at Feet First is incredible, the classes they attend/attended have developed so many skills over the years. They have improved their movement skills, gained understanding and knowledge and made some fantastic friends along the way. The staff are truly amazing, their passion for their trade shines through making it infectious – I cannot recommend Feet First enough. I've loved watching my girls grow in confide— Loraine Atkinson

Yes, no partner is needed to begin. Many styles are danced solo, and group classes let children practise alongside others.
Comfortable clothes that allow free movement and suitable footwear are best. The school can advise on any specific requirements for a particular class.
Costs vary by school and class type, so checking directly is sensible. Group classes generally cost less than private tuition.
For children, styles with clear foundations such as ballet, tap or freestyle offer a good grounding. What a child enjoys most is often the best guide.
Adults often start with a sociable style they find enjoyable and easy to follow. Choosing something fun makes it far easier to keep at it.
Light dance can suit some people, but it depends on individual circumstances. Those with a heart condition should seek medical advice before starting.
