Whitlees Community Centre

Whitlees Community Centre on Carrick Place is a busy hub for Ardrossan and the wider Three Towns. It is a community venue rather than a dance teaching school, hosting everything from weddings and Christmas parties to a well-liked cafe. Reviewers praise the friendly staff, the decorated hall and the all-day breakfast. For dance, it serves as a hall that classes and social events can hire.

About Whitlees Community Centre

The centre functions as a multi-purpose space for hire and community activity, with a bar, catering and event facilities. Any dancing that takes place here is run by visiting groups or private bookings rather than in-house tuition.

Classes & Dance Styles

As a hireable hall, Whitlees provides a floor and setting where local dance groups may hold sessions or social events. It does not employ its own dance teachers, so timetabled classes depend on which organisers book the space. If you are hoping to dance here, it is worth checking with the centre about which groups currently use the venue. The room itself has proved popular for larger gatherings and celebrations.

What to Expect on Your First Visit

If you are attending a dance session or event at the centre, dress to suit that particular occasion. It is sensible to confirm details with whoever is running the activity, since the centre hosts many different bookings. The staff on site are well regarded for being welcoming.

What Dancers Say About Whitlees Community Centre

4.6/5 from 107 Google reviews.

Went to a wedding here and you would never have known you were in a community centre. The hall was decorated beautifully. It was spectacular, fairy lights, centre pieces, chair coverings etc. The bar was cheap and cheerful and the staff were lovely. Even went above and beyond and went out and bought a bottle of my favourite tipple as they never stocked it. Amazing and a throughly enjoyable night. I dont want to post videos to show just how pretty it looked as I haven't the brides permission and don't want to invade her privacy lol.— Lizanne McGhie-Elliott

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you learn to dance without a partner?

Yes. Line dancing and group formats need no partner, and partner classes usually rotate everyone so nobody sits out. Coming alone is perfectly normal.

What should I wear to a beginner dance class?

Comfortable clothing you can move in and smooth-soled shoes that allow turning are ideal. Avoid heavy-grip trainers that catch on the floor. Bringing water is a good idea.

How much does a dance class usually cost?

Costs depend on the organiser, class length and whether it is a group or private lesson. Group sessions are typically the cheapest option. Check current prices with whichever group is running the class.

Which dance is best for beginners?

Dances with a clear, steady beat such as the waltz or a basic social style suit newcomers well. Line dancing is also popular as it needs no partner. Much depends on the music you enjoy most.

What is the best dance to start as an adult?

A relaxed social or ballroom style taught at a gentle pace works well for many adults. Line dancing is another easy starting point. Beginning with something low-pressure builds confidence.

Is dancing good for heart failure?

Light dancing can be a gentle form of activity, but anyone with a heart condition should consult their GP first. A doctor can advise on safe exertion levels. Follow medical guidance before taking part.
