About Ridgeway Studios

Former pupils recall years of happy memories, taking part in shows and enjoying the sheer range of what is on offer. The atmosphere leans towards encouragement and enjoyment, with classes that hold children's attention while still pushing them to improve. It tends to suit families who want their child to grow in confidence over the long term rather than dip in for a single course.

Classes & Dance Styles

Timetables typically run across ballet, tap, modern, street and commercial, alongside acro and singing, with drama woven in for those who want the full performing arts experience. Graded work through ISTD, LAMDA and musical theatre exams gives keen pupils a clear path to progress. Saturday workshops bundle several disciplines into one session, which is a good way for children to sample styles before committing. I attended Ridgeway Studios from the age of 5!
I have the most amazing memories and took part in some of the best shows.
There is a huge range of classes to participate in – my favourite being the Saturday Workshop which included: Jazz dance, singing and a drama class!
Going to Disney Land to perform each year with all your friends and family was magical.
I was also part of Ridgeways Agency which would put me forward for auditions! This led to me being in BBC’s Jonathan Creek and ITV’s Night and Day!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you learn to dance without a partner?

Yes. Most of the disciplines taught here, from ballet and tap to modern and street, are learned solo or in a group, so no partner is needed to take part.

What should I wear to a beginner dance class?

Comfortable clothes you can stretch and move in are ideal, along with soft shoes or the specific footwear a style requires. The school can tell you exactly what suits your chosen class if you ask when booking.

How much does a dance class usually cost?

Fees vary by discipline, age group and session length, and some styles are charged termly. It is best to contact the school directly for current rates.

Which dance is best for beginners?

Ballet and tap both give younger beginners a solid grounding in rhythm and coordination, while modern and street suit those wanting something more contemporary. Staff can recommend a starting point based on age and interest.

What is the best dance to start as an adult?

This school focuses largely on children and young people, so an adult should check what is currently offered before assuming a fit. In general, a beginner-friendly style with clear step patterns is the gentlest way in.

Is dancing good for heart failure?

Gentle, regular movement can support general cardiovascular health, but anyone with heart failure should speak to their GP before starting any exercise. This is a dance school rather than a medical provider, so seek professional advice first.
