Siegeris Dance is a well-regarded dance school in the Wimbledon area of south-west London. It teaches children and young people across ballet, modern and tap, and also runs classes for adults. Families and grown-up learners alike will find a professional yet friendly environment.
Parents describe genuine professionals who nurture character alongside technique, with children thriving over many years of exams and classes. Adults praise the relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere, noting one jazz class in particular where the teacher makes sure every ability level is catered for.
Young dancers work through ballet, modern and tap, typically building towards graded examinations with strong results. For grown-ups, there is at least an adult jazz class pitched to mixed abilities, which makes it a useful option among adult dance classes in London for those wanting a structured, sociable session. Whether you are looking at dance lessons in London for a child or for yourself, the teaching here is highly thought of.
Children usually begin in classes suited to their age and stage, so a first session is about settling in and enjoying it. Adults joining the jazz class can expect a relaxed welcome, and staff will advise on suitable clothing and footwear for whichever class you choose.
The school is based in the Wimbledon area, convenient for families and adults across south-west London.
Our daughter has been with Siegeris Dance School for over 6 years now and its been such a good decision. It has helped her to learn ballet, build character and discover a non-academic pursuit which she loves. Mrs Jennifer and her team are out and out professionals, but lay tremedous emphasis on good pastoral care and great communication with pupils and parents. Probably amongst the best ballet academies in London. (the Royal academy of dance exams and shows my daughter has done through Siegeris have been massive highlights (and surprise) for us as parents). Thank you Mrs Jennifer 🙂 for being — Dr. Shrawankumar Roongta
I have been attending the Monday evening Adult Jazz class for a while now. If you are looking for a relaxed, fun and thoroughly enjoyable dance class, then this is the one for you! Charlotte caters for all abilities, ensuring every member of the group is learning steps at their own pace as she teaches the choreography for each new dance. We have learnt dances to songs from a range of artists from the last fifty years or so. It is a great way to start the week; a welcoming group, a fun dance-y workout, great music and a very creative, warm and encouraging teacher! All in all, highly recommended— Jane
My DD has been with the Siegeris School of Dance for seven years, initially following three genres of dance – ballet, modern and tap, and since September last year just modern & tap (due to DD becoming a year 7 boarder and having to do ballet at school). Miss Charlotte, who teaches the modern and tap, is the most wonderful of dance teachers, always getting the very best out of my DD in class (as well as a Distinction every time in her ISTD grade exams). As a competitive athlete my DD misses several lessons each term but Miss Charlotte always finds workarounds ensuring she does not fall behind.— Jason Snowdon
My daughter LOVES her teacher and ballet classes at Siegeris Dance. During the summer holidays she joined a week of their summer school and it was just the best experience. She'd come home every day so excited for the "secret" performance they were going to put on for everyone at the end of the week. It was a joy to have her that happy and enchanted about something. The show on the last day was magical. I was astonished how much my 5-year old learned, how wonderful they all performed and how much everyone enjoyed it. We already can't wait for the next time! Elegant, patient and kind teachers.— Jennifer Laing
Salsa is easy to start and takes time to polish, with the basic step coming quickly but timing developing later. Regular practice is more important than any prior experience.
Yes, beginner salsa classes are made for people with no dance background. The steps are introduced gradually so anyone can follow.
It certainly is, and adults take up ballet for posture, strength and pleasure. Adult classes are paced for those meeting the technique later in life.
There is no age that rules out recreational ballet, as it rewards steady effort over an early start. Adults of any age can make real progress.
Frequently taught steps include the grapevine, step-touch, kick-ball-change, pivot turn and shuffle. These underpin most beginner routines.
Short, repeating four-wall dances are the gentlest introduction. Ask which beginner routines are on the timetable before joining.
