What Dancers Say About Britannia Dance

4.5/5 from 32 Google reviews.

My husband and I have been attending the classes at the Southbank Club, Southville, Bristol for over 3 years. We very much enjoy the classes and alway look forward to our Tuesday evenings. We're now in the intermediate class although we like going to the improvers at 8.00 pm before we join our intermediate class at 9.pm as it gives us a chance to review and improve on our technique. Sam and Martina are great teachers, very friendly and supportive. It's not always easy to go out after a day's work or on a cold winter night but it's always been worth it. It's fun, it's friendly, you meet ne— Anne Mitchell

I love Britannia Dance because it gives me a chance to practise a sport I really enjoy in my local area. It's convenient and a great place for meeting new people and making friends. It's also very rewarding – everyone is able to pass exams and gain a number of medallist awards, as well as getting the opportunity to showcase all new skills acquired to family members in the presentation classes. More confident dancers also get the opportunity to take part in dance competitions and earn yet more awards. I have found the whole experience very enriching as it has allowed me to expand social interac— Emma Dolphin

My daughter has been attending britannia dance school in stroud since she was 3 and absolutely loves it. She has learnt a range of dancing styles and has completed a wide range of rosettes. She has been entered into the south west IDTA dance competitions where she has successfully been awarded with a range of 1st, 2nd and 3rd places!
The dance teachers are very professional, patient and really get the best out of all the children who attend.
I would highly recommend Britannia dance school to any parent looking for a dance school for their children. 🙂— Chris & Lis Jones

We have been dancing for 3 years, all the time, trained by Sam and Martina. They have got us to Gold medal standard in ballroom! Throughout, they have been superb teachers…very understanding of how many left feet I have! Sam is a superb teacher and very talented. Martina taught us a lovely routine in the Argentine Tango, which we know other people often admire, when we do it on the dance floor. We consider ourselves very lucky to have 2 such talented teachers in the Stroud area. Thank you, Sam and Martina! Peter and Pamela Keevil— Peter Keevil

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to learn ballet as an adult?

Yes, adults regularly take up ballet and benefit from the strength, posture and control it develops. Ask the school what adult provision is available, as it varies by term.

What age is too late to start ballet?

For recreational dancing there is no age that is too late, since classes can be adapted to suit any body and stage of life. The rewards of learning something graceful and disciplined apply at any age.

What are 5 basic steps in line dancing?

Familiar building blocks include the grapevine, step-touch, kick-ball-change, pivot turn and shuffle. Most routines combine these, so a small vocabulary of steps opens up a lot of dances.

What is the easiest line dance to learn for beginners?

A short dance with a single repeating sequence and no tricky turns is the gentlest introduction. Teachers usually start newcomers there before adding anything more demanding.

Can you learn to dance without a partner?

Yes, many dances and classes are designed for solo participants or rotate partners so no one is left out. You are welcome to come on your own.

What should I wear to a beginner dance class?

Comfortable clothing that lets you move freely and soft shoes suited to the style are ideal. Bring water and check with the school if a particular style needs specific footwear.
