Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is it to learn salsa?

Salsa is very approachable at beginner level once you get used to the basic timing, and most people manage the fundamental steps within their first few classes. Progress comes with regular practice, and a good teacher keeps the learning curve gentle.

Can a non-dancer learn salsa?

Absolutely, salsa classes are designed for complete beginners with no dance background at all. The steps are broken down slowly, and plenty of people who thought they had no rhythm end up dancing happily.

Can you learn to dance without a partner?

Yes, you can join on your own, as many social classes rotate partners so everyone gets to dance. Turning up solo is completely normal and a good way to meet people.

What should I wear to a beginner dance class?

Comfortable clothing you can move freely in is ideal, along with shoes that let you turn without gripping the floor. Bring water and leave the heavy boots at home.

How much does a dance class usually cost?

Prices vary depending on whether you book a block of classes or pay each week, so it is best to contact the class directly for current rates. Beginner blocks are often a cost-effective way to start.

Which dance is best for beginners?

Salsa is a great choice for newcomers because it is sociable, energetic and built on a small set of repeating steps. That said, the best dance is often simply the one whose class atmosphere you enjoy most.
