Street Dance London runs its Camden Town classes from Soho Gyms on Camden High Street, right in the thick of one of the capital's liveliest neighbourhoods. It is a dance school built around street and commercial styles, welcoming movers of every level from raw beginner to seasoned regular. Anyone in north London wanting energetic classes with a real community feel is well placed here.
The warmth of this place shines through the reviews, with dancers describing a supportive, family-like group where a friendly welcome is a given every time you walk in. It suits people who want to step out of their comfort zone in a genuinely non-judgemental crowd, and the free trial has a habit of turning nervous first-timers into regulars. Expect exciting choreography paired with an easy, inclusive spirit.
The heart of the timetable is street and commercial dance, taught with fun, expressive choreography that you build up section by section across a class. Within the wider dance classes in London on offer you may also find complementary styles, and the school is easy to search for alongside dance lessons in London for those exploring the scene. A typical session warms up, drills the groove and technique, then layers the routine so you leave with something to show. Levels are mixed-friendly, so you can ask questions and progress at your own pace.
First-timers are actively encouraged, and a free trial lets you find your feet before committing. Wear comfortable clothes you can move and sweat in, along with clean trainers with good support for street styles, and bring water. Come as you are, since experience is not expected.
The classes are held on Camden High Street, moments from Camden Town Underground and superbly connected by bus and Tube across London. The buzzing location makes it easy to fit a class around a night out in Camden.
Street Dance London is a really supportive place to dance and express yourself. It doesn't matter what experience you have in dance, everyone is welcome. Classes are fun and friendly and I felt comfortable to ask questions when I wasn't quite sure. The choreo is exciting and the music changes from current charts to throwbacks which keeps it interesting.
There's also also range of extra opportunities, available on top of the classes, that you can choose to participate in like music videos, backing dancing, modelling and other events. Whenever I've opted to do an event like that I have been com— Tia Priest
Never considered doing Street Dance until I met Anna the owner by chance. A bit out of my comfort zone and I was worried about the atmosphere in the class (total novice at Street dance!). I did a free trial and had so much fun that I signed up on the spot. People in the class are a mixture of abilities and I have never felt under scrutiny. Daphné our teacher is absolutely wonderful, really lovely and supportive.
System is quite flexible so you catch up a missed class in a different slot which is quite useful when you go away etc.
Highly recommended!— Diane Aben
I love love love these classes. Since joining a year ago, I've come to think of the ladies (and men) I dance with as an extended family. It makes me happy when I come and dance even after months away due to other commitments. There is always a warm welcome when you enter.
Anna and Julie are fantastic teachers and have created an environment that is perfect for anyone who hasn't danced before, or even those that have. Their enthusiasm for dance is a huge motivator in my decision to continue dancing and be the best I can be.— Patricia Thomas
The most friendly and lovely dance class in London:) I have been with Street Dance London for over a year and it has always been an absolute pleasure to attend all the classes, all the teachers are really nice and encouraging and everybody is really supportive. There are lots of classes and locations to choose from so highly recommended for anyone who loves to dance!! It doesn’t matter if you are a complete beginner or experienced dancer, you will find a class which is great for you to enjoy:)!!— Michelle Watkins
Salsa comes together faster than most people expect once the basic step and timing click, usually within the first few classes. Regular practice is what turns the basics into flowing patterns.
Yes, non-dancers take up Latin and street styles all the time here. Classes are welcoming to complete beginners and nothing is assumed.
It is, and adults regularly begin dancing later in life. If ballet is your goal it is worth asking what is on the timetable, as many London schools run dedicated adult beginner classes.
There is no cut-off for dancing recreationally. Adults of any age can start and enjoy the strength, posture and expression that dance builds.
Definitely. Street dance is danced solo or as a group, so you never need to bring a partner to join in.
For street styles, comfortable clothing and supportive, clean trainers are ideal, plus water to stay hydrated. Dress in layers so you can warm up and cool down.
