Donahey's Online Ballroom & Latin Dance Lessons is a dance school that delivers its tuition entirely online. It brings ballroom and Latin instruction to you through video lessons you can follow at home. It suits couples and individuals who want to learn or keep improving without travelling to a studio.
Learners describe the online lessons as a genuine pleasure, with superb teaching that covers not just choreography but posture and technique in real depth. Several found they progressed just as well, or better, from home, which makes this a good option for anyone who prefers to learn at their own pace.
The lessons work through the ballroom and Latin dances with a focus on correct technique, taking you from the fundamentals into new choreography as you build. Because everything is online, you can revisit a lesson as often as you like and fit practice around your schedule. Reviewers note the material caters to a range of levels, so there is scope whether you are starting out or refining what you already know.
Getting started simply means finding a clear space at home; several learners managed comfortably even in a small room. Wear whatever lets you move freely, use smooth-soled shoes on a suitable floor, and work through the lessons at a pace that suits you.
As the tuition is online, there is no venue to travel to; you can take part from anywhere with an internet connection.
Donaheys on line dance lessons are a terrific idea.
We are learning a lot of new choreography and also there are extremely good lessons on correct posture and Ballroom and Latin technique.
The teaching is just superb and includes sessions taught by world champion dancers and Strictly professionals.
You can see exactly what the teachers are demonstrating and this can often be very difficult in a normal class. It is almost like having private lessons.
Having the three levels of lesson makes dancing accessible to everyone so don't be put off if you are a total beginner.
It is truly the most exce— G H
When my husband and I signed up for this course of lessons we did so because we thought it a good way to carry on learning during lockdown . However, because of our personal circumstances we have found this a far easier way to learn than in physical classes. In just 3 weeks our improvement has really surprised us. An additional benefit is that my other partner has signed up too. Previously it was hard for us to practice between socials because we live a long way apart and attend different dance schools. This way we are learning the same routines and will be good to go as soon as lockdown lifts— Prickly Sowthistle
We have really been enjoying the on line classes and they have given us a focus to keep up with our dancing during lockdown. I was a bit worried that we wouldn't have enough space but managed perfectly in our small dining room! The quality of the teaching is fantastic and the levels perfectly pitched. We're attempting to cover a dance per week across the month..look out Argentine tango! We came back from our Dancing with the Stars weekend at Alton towers all fired up to progress our skills and these lessons have done the trick! Thanks all.— Dee Desgranges
Paul and the team are excellent dance teachers. Paul has an amiable personality that is very disarming and welcoming. He is very patient with learners. Great communicator. The lessons are delivered in delightful bite-sized chunks which are easy to follow. The steps are repeated over and over until the learner gets it right. I was very apprehensive when I started but I was made to relax very quickly and enjoy the lessons. It is fun. My wife and I are thrilled with these lessons and will highly recommend the lessons.— Chris Oppong
Yes. Much of the technique and footwork can be practised solo, and online lessons let you work on your own steps before dancing with someone else.
Comfortable clothing you can move in and smooth-soled shoes are ideal, even at home, so you can turn and slide safely on your floor.
Online courses are usually priced differently from in-person lessons, so it is best to check the current subscription or course details directly.
The waltz is a gentle starting point thanks to its steady count, while the cha-cha suits anyone wanting something brighter; online lessons let you try both at your leisure.
Adults often begin with the waltz or a straightforward Latin dance, but the best choice is simply whichever you enjoy most and will keep practising.
Gentle dancing can be an enjoyable way to stay lightly active for many people, though anyone with a heart condition should speak to their doctor first.
