What Dancers Say About Salsa Buena Dance Classes Cardiff & Cowbridge

First ever session. Wasn't too shabby at it either though admittedly only did the simplest steps. So was like an excitable kid once I got some confidence. Now need to learn to relax more and not get too weirded out by standing that close to a stranger! Everyone was very helpful and friendly. The teacher was great though he does speak very quickly but that's probably more about me being a visual learner as spoken instructions don't stick in my head very well. However it all went very well and watching the intermediate s was a dream! Looking forward to going again! Really didn't realise how muc— Janet Wallace

I attended a monday class as a beginner… loved it. I came to visit my dad, as he lives here, and I’m from Manchester. He’s been taking part in classes for a few weeks now and I could see how much he enjoys them so while down here thought I’d pop along to the class with him. I have a dance background but not in salsa. The way the class is broken down to the basics steps for extreme starters is brilliant. So if you’ve never danced before do not worry, the only thing you need to know is how to count to 8. I highly recommend. If I live here I’d be there every week! Amazing. Fun. Social. Don’t hesi— Charlotte Crowley

Since starting attending classes at Salsa Buena, I can honestly say I haven’t looked back once! I love the friendly atmosphere of the classes and everyone is always so welcoming and supportive. The classes are well structured and the teacher explains things clearly. Steps and moves are recapped so you don’t need to worry if you forget something because there’s always a chance to go over things again! I really enjoy the social dancing after classes have finished because it’s a great way to practice the steps you’ve just learnt in the class. The monthly salsa parties are also so much fun and are— Hannah Pearce

Really enjoyed this class before the pandemic and looking forward to it starting up again. Shahid has also gone out of his way to do what he can to keep us dancing during these difficult times, including zoom fun on Saturday evenings during the first lockdown, outdoor classes when rules allowed, and the occasional zoom special class e.g. for valentine's day.
Great for beginners, as well as those who have danced before. Suitable for singles and couples alike, and very welcoming, with people of all ages and from all walks of life. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting to shift lockdown pound— Jane Roberts

Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is it to learn salsa?

Salsa is easy to start, with the basic step clicking for most people in a first class, and rewarding to keep improving. Timing, turns and lead-and-follow build with practice and regular social dancing.

Can a non-dancer learn salsa?

Yes, and many students here began with no dancing experience at all. Beginner classes assume you are starting from zero.

What is the best Latin dance for beginners?

Salsa and bachata are both excellent starting points thanks to their simple basic steps and sociable nature. Salsa in particular is a common first Latin dance because it is so widely taught socially.

Is Latin dance good for beginners?

Very much so; Latin styles are welcoming, social and built on repeatable basics that beginners pick up quickly. They also offer plenty of room to grow as your confidence increases.

How long before a wedding should you take dance lessons?

Starting a couple of months ahead is a comfortable guide, giving time to learn and rehearse a first dance without pressure. If you want something more elaborate, begin earlier and ask the school what timescale suits your plans.

How many dances do couples do at a wedding?

Most couples prepare a single first dance, though some add a second number or a livelier routine to get guests up. It comes down to your taste, and lessons can be tailored to whatever you have in mind.
