Simply Dance Nottingham is a dance school in the Carlton area of the city, welcoming both children and adults into its classes. It has carved out a niche partly by offering adult sessions, which can be harder to find locally. The atmosphere leans creative and pressure-free rather than exam-driven.
Adult beginners speak warmly of feeling welcome and at ease despite arriving with no experience and plenty of nerves. Parents value that the school gives children a creative outlet without the stress of exams, describing it as a genuine haven for self-expression. The recurring theme is a comfortable, encouraging environment that turns first-timers into regulars.
The timetable spans styles for different ages, and the adult dance classes in Nottingham are a real draw for grown-ups returning to movement or trying it for the first time. Sessions typically build from the basics towards routines at a relaxed pace, so dance classes in Nottingham here feel accessible rather than intimidating. If you are searching for dance lessons in Nottingham without the weight of gradings, this school's ethos fits that well.
Expect a friendly welcome and a class pitched so newcomers can follow along, exactly as several nervous first-timers have described. Wear something comfortable to move in and soft, flexible shoes, and simply bring yourself; you can ask about anything more specific once you have chosen a class.
The studio sits in the Carlton part of Nottingham, convenient for the eastern side of the city and beyond. It is reachable by car or local transport for evening and daytime sessions.
As I work, study and workout from home, I wanted to try something new which was out of the house and I'm so glad I did. After researching many activities online, I narrowed it down to yoga and dance. There aren't many adult dance classes around, and the ones I found were kinda fancy and expensive. I just wanted to find somewhere welcoming, friendly and fun, and I definitely found that here.
When I arrived I was greeted by multiple friendly faces, which was lovely as I was so nervous especially after not being around too many people since covid. The business owner and dance instructor were so— Kym Sobers
My friend recommended the dance school to me, so we both booked to do an adult class. I didn’t know what to expect as i have zero dancing experience. I attended and was really nervous. They made me feel so welcome and comfortable and once i got into it i really enjoyed the class and actually had a great work out whilst having fun!.. The place is clean, bright and well maintained. It was that good i have already booked for next week and my daughter is trying it out this weekend. If your looking for an adult class or child.. you should try simply dance!! I loved it!— Kiri Lowe
Undoubtedly the best dance classes in Nottingham! Simply Dance offer a haven and wonderfully creative environment for kids to express themselves through dance. I love that there are no exams too.. I don't want my child having even more stress or pressure than he already encounters at school, I want him to simply enjoy dancing, learn, thrive and have fun whilst he learns new skills and techniques. Above everything else, you can see the kids who attend this dance school LOVE being there, it's like a home from home. Can't ask for more than that 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟— Andrea Warner
We had a dance party for our daughters 8th birthday here in January (so sorry it's taken this long to review!)
Our two party hosts were fab with our party of 15 from start to finish, the price point was great and it was deemed our 'best party yet' by our daughter.
We also thought it was so lovely they gave the birthday girl a small gift and really included her younger brother (3) with the activities and prizes!
It's just a shame it's a little too far afield for us to travel for regular dance sessions.
Highly recommend ⭐— Jo W
The core salsa step is easy to pick up, so beginners usually manage it within a first lesson. Building timing, turns and partner connection takes practice, which is what ongoing classes are for.
Yes, complete beginners learn salsa all the time and beginner classes assume no experience whatsoever. Starting from scratch is the norm, not the exception.
It is, and adult ballet is a popular way to build strength, posture and grace at any stage of life. Ask the school which of its classes suit adult beginners, or seek a dedicated adult ballet course locally.
No age rules you out of recreational ballet, which adults take up in their thirties, fifties and later. Beginning as an adult simply means dancing for enjoyment rather than a professional goal.
The grapevine, step-touch, kick-ball-change, pivot turn and shuffle are common foundations. Line dances repeat and combine them into set sequences.
Simple dances made of grapevines and step-touches in short loops are the friendliest starting point. Classic beginner routines of that kind build confidence fast.
