The King's School, part of Kings Dance Academy, is a dance school near Longridge in Preston teaching children and young people across a broad range of styles. It has a strong performance side, with regular shows and opportunities to take to the stage. It suits families looking for a nurturing school where children can grow in confidence.
Parents speak warmly of teachers who put children at ease and of a school that rebuilds confidence as much as it teaches dance. One family whose daughter had lost her spark elsewhere found her welcomed and settled straight away, while others highlight the range of classes and the frequent chances to perform. The recurring note is a professional, passionate team that children clearly adore.
The academy covers a wide span of styles for young dancers, with regular showcases and shows giving pupils something to work towards. It sits within the broader picture of dance classes in Preston, and while the emphasis is on children, families exploring the wider Preston scene, from salsa classes to ballroom dancing and dance lessons in Preston, will find this a well-regarded local name. The focus throughout is on steady progress and the confidence that performing brings.
A child new to the school can expect a friendly welcome and teachers skilled at settling nerves from the first session. Comfortable clothing that allows free movement and appropriate footwear for the style are all that is needed to begin. Families are encouraged to ask about the right class for a child's age and stage.
The academy is based on an industrial estate near Longridge, on the edge of Preston, serving families across the surrounding area.
Our daughter lost her confidence at a previous dance school and decided to take a little time out, we did a little research and listened to a few opinions and recommendations from family, we went to Kings Dance Academy and Miss King and the other dance teachers immediately made her regain love and appetite for dance! The moment we turned up at KDA we felt welcome, Miss King is always looking for new exciting things for all the students. Would definitely recommend. If you want to dance for fun or you want to take it a little more serious. No matter what kings will have the answers. 💛🖤— Natalie

Kings Dance Academy Summer School
My 2 daughters attended last week and absolutely loved it. They both attend a different dance school but have said that this was by far the highlight of their summer holiday. So much so, that we are having to plan next years summer holiday around them attending again. The show on Friday was fantastic and a real sign of all the hard work that had gone into the week by both the children and teachers alike. I can't thank you enough. Brilliant!!— Jo s.t
A beginners' group class is the usual entry point, teaching the basic steps and hold from the start. You can then build up your repertoire of dances over time.
The waltz is a popular first dance for its steady rhythm, though a social foxtrot is another common choice. A teacher will usually suggest what to start with.
The basic step is quick to learn, so most people dance something recognisable early on. Fluency takes practice, but the fast start makes it enjoyable.
Yes, most salsa beginners have never danced before. Classes assume no experience and build up gradually.
Typical basics include the grapevine, step-touch, kick-ball-change, pivot turn and forward-and-back steps. Most line dances weave a few of these into a repeating pattern.
Short routines with lots of repetition are the friendliest starting point. A teacher can recommend an easy beginner dance to build confidence.
